The Columbus Crew seem to be on the verge of fresh investment as the Las Vegas Sports and Entertainment group are poised to buy into the first place club.

According to reports coming from the Sports Business Journal, the Columbus Crew are the target of the investor group, Las Vegas Sports and Entertainment.

Currently owned by Dallas-based Hunt Sports Group, the Crew have struggled over their 13-year existence, in terms of providing healthy income and even though nothing is done yet, general manager Mike McCullers is excited at the possibility of new investors.

"This is something that is ongoing," said McCullers of the talks. "For us, it's business as usual. This is not going to be a distraction. If it happens, great. It shows the value in the Columbus Crew and what we have been building."

The deal has raised speculation that it may lead to a move to Las Vegas for the Crew, which McCullers brushed aside for now, being that the MLS would be very wary of allowing a team with a soccer specific stadium to leave it’s home.

While the investment may be imminent, it hasn’t effected the play of the Crew, who currently sit comfortably in first place with 50 points, which is good for eight more than the second place Revolution. The Crew have already secured a playoff spot for this season.
