View Full Version : Who's had the best draft in the first round?

I'd give the Lions a nod as having the best first round performance in the draft. They got two great offensive weapons: Williams WR and Jones RB. Trading into the late first round to get Jones was an excellent move (compared to Dallas' blunder by trading down and failing to land one of the top three backs).

I totally agree. Matt Millen did a gret job, he got himself a very good reciever, and the best RB in the draft IMOP.
Parcells tried to be cute, and didnt work out too well. I guess we'll see

what did tuna do?
best draft IMO is the texans cuz they improved greatly on D. and they needed it with the colts, titans and jags in their division who are all uprising offenses

As much as I hate to admit it, I also would go with the LIONS. It would be in our division.http://www.sportstwo.com/forums/http:///forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif

Dawk texans?
Lions now have charles rogers, roy williams, az hakim,
tia streets and kevin jones on the offense. The lions
may possibly have one of the most talented wr cors
in the nfl along with one of the fastest. Remember
roy williams in 2003 had he declared some say he
would of been taking before rogers. Harrington with
all these weapons is gonna lick his chops. Lions
already had one of the better d lines in the nfl and
with there revamped secondary look out.
Lions imo won the draft.

Dallas didnt have a bad draft, they picked a 1st round pick next year and still got a RB they must of liked....and Buffalos pick could be really high if Bledsoe struggles and Losman gets the nod...
I think the Chargers did the best....they got the player they really wanted in Rivers, while picking up a future 1st(possibly a top 5) and a future 5th plus a 3rd this weekend....consider this scenario, Mike Williams gains entry into the NFL, the league holds a supplemental draft, SD can now take him, which will cost their #1 next year and still have a #1 in 2005....thats a brillant coup on thier part...

It certainly appears that the Lions did pretty well, if not the best.
Dallas had Stephen Jackson at the top of their RB board, but there was not much separation between the top 5 RBs from their perspective....at least for what Buffalo offered them. I yelled and threw stuff when they didn't pick him. It may just be sour grapes now, but if Jackson had people convinced he was that good, I wouldn't think he would have made it to #24. Dallas wasn't the only one who passed on him. Dallas filled needs, but we won't know how good it truly was until we use that 2nd #1 pick next year.

i am totally biased but i think the bears had the best draft and are now going to be the best defensive team in the NFC next year. If grossman plays average the bears win the north

I think the best defense in the NFC is a real strech but certainly one of the better def.
I keep seeing who the Lions got though and am shocked. Dallas really dropped the ball as far as I'm conecerned in not taking Jones or Jackson. Detriot landed some real players and could be a very competitve team this season.

Bearsfan,
Yep bears did very well in the draft, i liked there
moves on the d line and i can already tell that
lovell is making his mark with the team speed
on d. Bears and lions did very well.
Beef, i also agree with the moves dallas made they
more less traded down in a draft this year to be better
next year. Getting a first next year will be great for
the boys. Imo i think 2003 didnt have alot of depth
of talent after rd 4. Not like years past. Dallas knew
this and moved down and for the future in 2004/05.
Tampa imo did horrible in the draft and i as a fan
am very disapointed hopefully bucky proves me
wrong but i dont like our direction. Offense's wins
you games but defenses wins you championships.

I feel the pain Bucs....Gruden is an offensive coach though and he wants to score....I thought clayton was a stretch were you got him, buts hes a good player, and a Hines Ward like downfield blocker, an underrated part of a WR's game...he will turn the 10 yard run into a 50 yard run...Garner will love the guy....

the bears were renked 12th in total defense last year, they had two problems 1) they could not pressure qb, 2) they did not force enough turnovers.
They just added 2 pash rush lineman, and lovie coached the rams to the most turnovers in football last year. the cover 2 is very condusive to turnovers also especially with the type of players the bears now have

its this years draft, not last years or FA. i think the lions had a great draft, and took the second best WR and RB, but still i think the texans had a great draft to, and as u know i always go with darkhorses just to get them attention.
