Which conference is stronger overall in football?

Colorado quarterback Jordan Webb and former Buffaloes offensive lineman Alex Lewis were both charged with second-degree assault on Wednesday after prosecutors alleged they knocked a man unconscious in a weekend brawl.

Lewis, who announced Friday that he plans to transfer to Nebraska, also was charged with two counts of misdemeanor harassment.

Police say 22-year-old Lee Bussey was knocked unconscious during a fight with Lewis and Webb near the university that started after Lewis bumped into Bussey at 3 a.m. Saturday. Bussey was disoriented and bleeding from his head when they found him seated, leaning against a garbage bin in an alley, according to a police report.

Lewis' attorney, Donald Brenner, initially said Bussey accosted Lewis, possibly because Lewis was wearing Cornhuskers attire, but now says Lewis wasn't wearing any Nebraska gear. He said Lewis' status with Nebraska is up in the air and will depend on the outcome of the court case.

Lewis and Webb each faced the judge separately during the hearing.

Virginia coach Mike London says junior running back Clifton Richardson has decided to transfer.

London says Richardson asked for permission to pursue opportunities elsewhere and he wishes him well. Richardson has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

TCU Horned Frogs defensive end Devonte Fields has been suspended for the first two games of 2012.

Fields, the Big 12's Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, will miss TCU's season opener against LSU at Cowboys Stadium and the Frogs' game against Southeastern Louisiana "due to a violation of university and team policy."

Reserve safety Marvin Robinson has left the Michigan Wolverines, a team spokesman confirmed to WolverineNation on Monday morning.

Robinson's departure leaves just 10 players at Michigan from the 26-member recruiting class in 2010. The 6-foot-2 Winter Haven, Fla., native was the 21st-ranked outside linebacker in his class.

Former Colorado quarterback Nick Hirschman said Thursday he will transfer to Akron, where he will be eligible to play this fall after receiving his degree.

Hirshman, 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, completed 59.1 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and seven interceptions last season. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Former Georgia Tech wide receiver Jeff Greene will transfer and walk on at Ohio State, his high school coach told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday.

Greene left the Yellow Jackets in December in what was termed a mutual decision.

Offensive lineman Alex Lewis has decided to transfer from Colorado to Nebraska, according to the Rivals.com Cornhuskers website.

Lewis, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound junior, started all 12 games at left guard for the Buffaloes in 2012. His father, Bill Lewis, was an All-American center for Nebraska in 1985 and played in the NFL from 1986 to '93.

Oklahoma State sophomore quarterback Wes Lunt will transfer, the Cowboys announced Thursday.

Kendal Thompson, who is vying to win Oklahoma's three-way quarterback competition, was arrested Friday morning on misdemeanor complaints of public intoxication and interference with official process, according to the Norman Police Department.

Thompson, 20, was arrested about 2:15 a.m. after police responded to a loud party call. As they approached the apartment complex where the party was, police noticed Thompson passed out on a nearby hill. According to police, Thompson's "speech was very slow" and "not making sense with incomplete sentences."

New Buffaloes coach Mike MacIntyre, who replaced Jon Embree after he was fired following a 1-11 season, issued a statement regarding both players.

"Jordan's exact involvement in this incident is still being investigated," MacIntyre said. "We continually stress the importance of appropriate behavior to our players and do not tolerate any detrimental conduct in our football program. Once all of the facts come to light, if Jordan is found responsible for any misconduct, he will be disciplined according to team rules."

Webb, who started the bulk of the games in 2012, suffered a torn ACL in spring but had hoped to return at some point in the 2013 season.

Kentucky safety Ashely Lowery is hospitalized in Georgia with injuries suffered in a car accident Friday night.

Wildcats athletic department spokesman Tony Neely confirmed that Lowery is being treated in a hospital but said the school was still gathering details about the accident, where he is hospitalized and his condition.

Southeastern Conference sports -- including football and basketball -- will have a 24-hour-a-day home when the SEC Network launches in August 2014.

The SEC and ESPN announced a 20-year agreement and rights extension on Thursday. The deal includes a new television network and digital platform that will show SEC sports 24/7, including more than 1,000 events in the first year.

Included in the programming will be 45 football games, more than 100 men's and more than 60 women's basketball games, 75 baseball games and selected events from the other 17 SEC sports. The network will also feature studio shows and coverage of special events such as signing day and football pro days.

Texas State football coach Dennis Franchione has agreed to a five-year contract extension that pays him $400,000 annually starting in 2014.

The agreement announced Thursday says Franchione will remain at his current base salary of about $350,000 until February. Franchione took over the program in early 2011 and had a five-year deal.
