almost all pages load in about 2/5ths of a second. sometimes takes a few seconds longer when I click on a huge thread. i also have encountered 0 popups in my 3 months of using this forum.
If the site were struggling during blazer games, I'd have heard about it from more than just you. What does it tell you that nobody else has this complaint? It tells me the problem is local to your setup. I cannot control the congestion of the internet paths between the site and your house. Or how good your ISP is. Or if your DNS configuration is flakey (a lot of slow network issues are related to DNS). I monitor the health of the site and I see zero technical issues with the hardware, the software, or the bandwidth. The load on the site during a game thread is not enough to slow the site down noticeably. The site is on a gigabit connection to the internet, well connected, tier 1 hosting provider, etc.
Denny, may i ask you something? You shove out hundreds of dollars a month and pay for top quality servers and connections for what? for us to cat fight eachother in the Blazer section? Not saying that it's a bad idea or anything...
I'm happy to help diagnose the problem and find a fix. How fast is your internet connection? Are you streaming video at the same time the games are on?
Did you miss this one? http://sportstwo.com/threads/257966-The-Great-Playoff-Chase?p=3295011&viewfull=1#post3295011 Or this one? http://sportstwo.com/threads/259830-Twitter-dude-calls-out-HCP!!!-(in-2010) Of course I would expect the site to go to a crawl when the Blazers' own facebook page links to it. No need to pretend it didn't happen however.
I don't expect the site to crawl at the loads we've had. I've not seen any indication of it. At 1000+ users, the most we've had in a while, the main server was 90% idle. The site has never ever "crashed" in the past 7 years. We haven't crashed on draft day like many other sites do, or when Oden was injured, or any other "traffic spike" type events. The Blazers and many others recently linked to Sly's interview with Jerome Kersey. That didn't magically slow the site down. One or two people anecdotally having an issue and claiming it is S2 doesn't mean it's S2. People post youtube videos or pictures in threads. These are not hosted here. If any of the sites hosting those are slow, the pages here can be slow. That said, if you or anyone else is having issues, PM me right away and I'll look at it.
I am not having an issue with this site overall. It is very fast. 99.99% of the time. Very happy with it. With that said, the site did crawl and come close to crashing that day though. It only lasted 5 minutes but it was an issue. Wheels who is a mod can vouch for it. I am sure whoever you host with can provide you the server logs from 03/28/14 at approx 2 PM and it would show you that connections were refused for a short time. As I said, very happy with the site but don't pretend it is/was bulletproof. I will assume you just weren't around to witness it on that day and time.
I run the server myself. I have seen the server and bandwidth logs and there's nothing in them to indicate the site was slow. Your ISP could have been slow. Maybe you and Wheels use the same one. Or the network traffic from S2 to your ISP had some bottleneck. Remember how Netflix is paying Comcast for peering? Because the network traffic between them and Comcast had become bottlenecked. It happens. I can't control it.
LOL I am in North Idaho Denny. I highly doubt I use the same ISP at Wheels who is in Hood River. As I said, this isn't a grip with S2. Love the site and have no trouble outside of that day. Instead of denying that users had issues though why don't we just embrace that it doesn't happen more often?
I use the Maxthon browser, no pop ups. Most of the virus creator do not make viruses for this browser. Even if you use FireFox (bad, they fired their CEO in error) pop ups are the result of viruses or adware.
