True, but (pure speculation) we would've likely seen blood given that the break likely broke the skin and he was wearing a white leg sleeve.
Are you thinking CJ and our pick for Blake Griffin? Because that actually makes a lot of sense for us now. He probably pairs really well with Collins, and it keeps next season alive while we hope for Nurk's return.
Nah, I'm thinking two firsts and Zach, or three firsts, or a combination like that with expirings. Seen many trades for stars go down like that this year.
Given our luck and Blake's injury history, this kind of move would be incredibly shortsighted. Especially when Nurk's future is up in air and can't truly be evaluated til he actually returns.
I know, I'm devastated for him. The thing I'm holding on to right now is that he's obviously stronger emotionally/mentally and more connected to the team and his team mates than Oden was... but, yeah, I didn't sleep a whole lot last night.
This summer just got a little more interesting. It may actually force Olshey to make a big move. There might also be a free agent big man who isn't getting big offers and sees our situation as the perfect place to sign a one year deal to have a big year like Cousins signing with GS last summer (obviously not an injured center like Cousins). I've been very against trading for Aldridge but he'd be a good temporary replacement at center and then they could figure out how to integrate both him and Nurk when he gets back.
I agree with this. Best case he comes back in late November 2019 based on PG13’s recovery timeline. If the Blazers take a more cautious approach, maybe they push his return out another two months to late January 2020. If the Blazers aren’t in the playoff race at that point I’d be in the camp of shutting him down for the whole season. No point in risking further injury to move into a low playoff seed.
I love the enthusiasm. I hope you’re right but all signs (similar injuries to other athletes, his size, etc.) point to a longer recovery time.
I wouldn't play him next season either. Some of you, be real here. It's gonna be 1 year, at least, because he's big fella, PG was out for 8 months. Putting Nurk back on court in this time of year next season would be mistake, high intesity could hurt him even more. Just let him geet back to the routine of playing basketball through practice and pre-season.
Big bones don't heal slower than smaller bones. They don't heal beyond healed. Typical recovery time for a tibia/fibula break is 3-6 months. Give it two extra months for fitness & conditioning and he's back at the end of November.
How...? It seems to me like even if the worst happens and they just get wrecked in the 1st round the whole team will get so much more of a collective pass now. NO loves to preach patience too, so my guess is it will just be met with let's wait until he gets healthy. I'm sure they'll look at trying to keep Kanter or something like that for a stop gap until Nurk is back in a year or two. I still think if they make a move it'll be at the deadline next year w/ their expiring contracts.
Next year though, I don't think it's giving up. Year 3 of Zach another summer for him to get bigger. Another summer he can work into playing with the starters and Dame. I think they can be ok if Zach keeps getting better (long term / next year).
I don't understand the doom and gloom. 1. Despite everyone's best rose colored glasses, Portland was not winning a title this year. 2. Complaing about being bad next year makes no sense. With contract hell that Olshey put us in, one of the only ways to get more talent is through the draft. As small of a chance as it is, we at least have a better chance at another star by being worse. I like Nurk, but this isn't doom and gloom time. It's hey, if life gives you lemons, find some that life gave vodka to and make lemon drops
LeVert’s injury looked awful too. He came back after 3 months I think. Let’s wait until we know exactly the extent of damage.
I’m serious that that is the typical athlete’s recovery time for a break of the tibia and fibula as evidenced by what I have read online and Paul George’s similar injury. I don’t know any of the specifics of his injury and I am not a doctor, but barring something unexpected, why would you assume worse than typical? Just because he’s big? Bones heal at a known rate and once they are healed they are stronger than before. I see no reason for pessimism.
