Will Simons and the Blazers explorer an extension?

I'm curious how many years and dollars Simons extension can be?
What the deadline is to do an extension?
When would Simons be eligible for more years?

I'll try to find answers to those questions but if anyone knows please chime in.

Nope. There's no urgency to extend him this summer.

He can extend to a max contract with a total if 5 years (2 years remaining & 3 new years at max). It would be insane to do so...

He needs to earn it first & show that he can be a net positive player.

    Thanks.

So for about anytime in the next year they can do an extension of 3 additional years? I can't remember if there is any blackout during the season of not being able to do extensions.

Then July 2025 an extension could be 4 additional years?

Yes - there are some blackout dates, but I don't remember what those are

Appears the extensions can be signed up until game 1 (late October) - but then they cannot be signed during the season so would have to wait until ~June 2025.

Ayton has a similar situation where he is eligible for an extension next month in mid July also for up to 3 more years.

Both players or team could wait until next summer 2025 and then do an extension up to 4 years.

Quickly just agreed to sign for 5 years $175 million or $35 million per year. He has less PPG in his career, slightly less efficient, shorter, and born within a week of each other.

So I'd think Ant agent would at least want similar amounts.

Seems like the Blazers should at least entertain offering some sort of an amount for Ant. Even if the Blazers eventually explore trading Ant it would seem additional years on his contract (if not overpaid) would increase his trade value.

Blazers don't have risk of losing Ant anytime soon so perhaps they can try to get a bit of a discount from Quickly - 3 years 90 million or such.

I would think the opposite, personally. I feel like teams value flexibility.

Extensions also have 6 month trade restrictions so if the Blazers wanted to be able to extend and later trade Ant/Ayton before the early February deadline they need to complete an extension by early August.

I believe Ant would only be eligible for a 4-year extension this summer....?

if that is the case his max would be about a 4-year/158M extension. 39.5M/year. A 5 year max would be about 204M; around 41M/year

Ant at 40M/year...yeah, that would be typical blazers.

I'm a little confused by what you mean by "Per CJ is gone"....?

I could be wrong but I think the latest CBA tacked an extra year on extensions

If Simons wants close to the max it would be stupid for the Blazers to do it as they have all the risk of it looking worse in a few years and no discount from just waiting until later to extend/resign.

Certainly need a discount if extending him... the question is how much.

    Limited to 3 year extension.
Can only go to a max of 5 years & he currently has 2 left on his contract.

poster is called "CJ is Gone" who posted reply #2 above

I think some max or supermax contracts may allow an extra year.
