Our first inseason tournament game is tomorrow against Minnesota. I’m definitely rooting for us to win these games. Let’s get this and then tank!
Was excited for the NBA cup before the season. Even a bad team can get hot and win 3-4 games to make it to Vegas. But our team is so horrific we just don't have a realistic chance to win at all. I put a few bucks on the TWolves to win tonight. I guess we could have some 1% fluke night where we shoot lights out and win, that just seems extremely unlikely. No chance we can put together enough wins to make Vegas this year. Were probably one of only about 3-5 teams that have nearly a zero chance. I look forward to future seasons where we at least could get hot and win 3-4 games.
Blazers group is Wolves, Clippers, Kings, Rockets. I'm not sure we win a game. I'd certainly expect the Wolves to win the group, but with only 4 games the Kings could make a run. Group B in the East looks very bad - it has the Bucks, Raptors, and Pistons. Pacers are the only team at or above .500, with Miami having a losing record.
Sorry, how would this increase revenue? Isn't that set with the cba? Or do you mean they want to get increased early season viewing to help with the next negotiations to increase future revenue? I am not keen on the details of how it works.
The NBA started the Cup last season. A few months later the NBA signed a TV contract for 76 billion dollars (not an exaggeration!)
I believe that was a coincidence. They were getting that type of money regardless. Silver is just attempting to mix things up a bit. Spent time with Premier League execs getting ideas.
People don't watch early season NBA games, so any gimmick to try and get them to tune in with a fake tournament and 'champion' (remember the lakers won this thing last year and then were very mediocre the rest of the way) is a way to increase $. They already picked up a sponsor (Emirate Airlines) after one year and give the players some cash to try and get them to actually do their jobs that they are already paid very well for.
Not sure how you can consider it a "fake" tournament. It's not like an NBA championship solves world hunger or has some far reaching real life consequence. Basketball is just entertainment the same as movies or some random person youtube clips.
Lakers won last year….(I had to look it up), and they finished 7th in the conference. They beat Indiana….(also looked that up), who finished 11th I really just don’t get the hype for this dumb thing
