Might just be a family thing. But a good Chex mix is like gold in my lineage. We get those huge ziploc bags where you can write the persons name with a sharpie and you disperse it. My grandma who died a few years ago at 94 perfected her recipe and had 24 grandkids and lived on a fixed income. That was our gift and we loved it. Ever since we’ve tried to perfect a recipe. Mine has been gold ever since
Basil won't be good much longer. Harvested Thai basil and made two batches of curry, one red, one green, both with chicken. Going to use Italian basil for pesto, pistou, and a stuffed flank steak.
I’m smoking more Chex mix and dispersing it into giant ziploc bags. May give some to the Trump neighbors who hate us. Kill them with kindness is what my mom always taught us.
Made pho today with last of Thai basil. I already had two quarts of beef stock in freezer and it didn't make sense to make more, so added ginger, star anise, peppercorns, garlic and cloves to stock and simmered to flavor. Sliced partially frozen strip steak very thin. To serve boiling broth is poured over meat and rice noodles, then add lime juice, hoisin, bean sprouts, scallions, etc.
Sounds good. Invited by cousin, his wife is Swiss shiksa and some kind of candle lighting tradition. So making Swiss hazelnut cake. Marshmallow frosting and covered with chocolate shavings. Just made bourbon balls. Actually would have been better made earlier but 6 days to ripen.
A cookie of sorts. First make and roll out chocolate cookies. After baked and cooled they are ground to crumbs. Mixture of powdered sugar, pecans and cocoa ground to crumbs, add butter and corn syrup. Combine two mixtures and add bourbon. Let rest 30 minutes, then shape into balls and roll in sugar. They can be made up to six weeks ahead of time. They need at least three days to mellow and blend flavors. They are holiday tradition especially in the South.
Dug some little potatoes out of the garden. Lashanna got hold of one and batted it all over the backyard. I will locate it next spring when it starts to sprout in some inconvenient location.
