RW and Grant could make them contenders.

So you think the Cavs coach would lead us to more wins? I’m quite sure Billups would have the Cavs in first place if they switched jobs. Talent wins out at the end of the day not coaching.

It's an easy thing to claim because it can never be proven one way or the other. I look at Phil Jackson's tenure with the Lakers as supporting the value of coaching. But either way, it's all opinion.

I don’t know about that. Cavs basically have the same team as last year, but switched coaches and look a lot better for it.

I think Atkinson deserves a bit of credit. After all, are all coaches the same ? All are as good as Popovich? According to your model CB = Pops. Now I know you really don't think that. I say coaches matter and players matter. Neither is sufficient but both are necessary. Now would I rather have the best roster OR the "best" coach? I would go with best roster.

Who wants to sign KD to an extension? This is his 18th season. He’s done.

No it wouldn’t. Curry’s had a major drop off this year. He doesn’t have championship impact anymore.

It's not like the Cavs just got a new coach and are showing SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT.

Oh wait, THAT DID JUST HAPPEN.

The Cavs also won 48 games the year before and this year they have zero players under 22 on their roster (and only 1 player under 24 who is in their roation), vs 5 players under 22 for Portland, including 3 that get decent minutes, one who is a starter and the other 2 who are in the rotation, and 7 players 24 or younger who are in the rotation.

7 teams with average ages less than a year older than Portland

    OKC 30-6 (22-4 without Holmgren)
    Hou 25-12
Memp 24-14 (Morant has only played 20 games)
    Orl 22-17 (with heavy injuries)

no law says a young team has to be bad

This was about the Cavs. Notice what the 1st and 3rd youngest teams have in common with Portland?

Good coaches get the most out of their players. They have a good scheme and get them to buy into it.

I look at Taylor Jenkins in Memphis. They’re a really good team that plays above what their talent level on the team is. From top to bottom they aren’t one of the best rosters in the league. Not close. But every year they have guys who are unexpected contributors and buy into their role perfectly.

Jayden Wells a 2nd round pick has started for them all year. Pippen Jr has a major role. Last year it was Laraivia and Konchar.

Degnault is another one. They became a playoff team before anyone expected them to and the whole team buys into their defensive concept. He has every one of those guys playing like a dog.

Kerr is another one. This years particular roster outside of Curry is straight up hot garbage. They’re still a .500 team and will probably be a playoff team because they at least play defense at a respectable level.

Spoelstra is another. They have a couple good players. But generally their starting lineups are a mish mash of who’s? They always play hard and will probably be a playoff team again.
