https://www.basketballnetwork.net/latest-news/andre-iguodala-names-his-top-5-defenders-ever Yesterday I read that Iguodala initially rated Mookie Blaylock as the best guard defender ever. He put Olajuwon in his top 5. I thought of Bill Fitch, because he made Blaylock and Olajuwon into top defenders. Without him, they wouldn't have been great. He did the same with later Blazers Buck Williams and Chris Dudley. There aren't any tough critical SOB coaches anymore.
From what I've seen Chauncey would make a great defensive coordinator, but he couldn't patch together an endgame playbook or inbounds pass to save his soul. Ironically Billups and Stotts would compliment each other really well on a coaching staff.
Strategy 1: Before the midseason trade deadline, display to GMs the players you're offering, to get maximum future picks. Play Grant and Simons. (You want Clingan to play more this year than Ayton? Ha ha.) Strategy 2: Move up a little in the current draft. Play our lousy young players. Cronin is right. Strategy 1 will help more in the long term. After the trade deadline, lineups will change to suit you negative thinkers.
So when the guys were playing like shit Chauncey was incompetent for not being able to keep the team competitive in that moment but now he's ruining the franchise because he's doing his job too well??? Does it bother me that Shaedon only got 24 minutes, yeah it does. Scoot fouled out in 14 minutes, that's not on Chauncey and those who are on Chauncey about letting Scoot play with 3 fouls in the second quarter, I would say it's fine for a coach to give a young player the opportunity to play through foul trouble. For a lot of you Chauncey can't do anything right. Well I was pretty close to being on the bandwagon that maybe Chauncey needed to go but after watching how he has this team playing lately I think he still deserves to coach a roster that makes sense and has any sort of direction. Joe Cronin is fucking this shit up. So do you guys want him to be able to fire the coach and pick a new coach? If so please tell me why?
I find it kind of amusing that the alleged ruining has coincided with the past three games when the Blazers actually looked like a competent NBA team, playing terrific defense and a fast-paced, exciting offense. Sure, the competition wasn't elite, but I do think that the team is beginning to find an identity. I realize that people are concerned about adequate playing time for Sharpe and Scoot, but they are getting minutes and have, for the most part, been more productive lately when they are on the court. I also get the concern about draft positioning, but that's becoming pretty much locked in at this point in the season. The Blazers currently have the 8th seed and have little chance of finishing better than 9th or worse than 5th.
coach makes a lot of odd subs and line up choices our coach is ok ish we dont have a really talented team our players have fairly juxtaposed performances night to night bringing in huge inconsistency and doubt around fit on a nightly basis our players are ok ish we lose a lot of games its hard to get better ish players and coaches. this is blazers life
Honestly it can be. If Scoot were our best player and we needed this win it's terrible coaching. Scoot however is a guy who in the future might need to play through early foul trouble because maybe he will be our best player and maybe it will be a must win situation. Microanalysis of Chauncey's coaching has become absurd. I personally think he should be putting Shaedon and Scoot in situations to succeed but when given the chance he should be putting them in tough situations to see how they handle them and then coach them up afterward. Seriously, I still do not know if Chauncey could be a good coach for a roster that makes sense... I really don't know. These rosters he's been given have been so absolutely fucked up and have had conflicting interests every game he's coached. Maybe Chauncey is a bad coach but him playing Scoot with three fouls in that situation does nothing to prove that. Him turning this team's effort and attitude around the last few games has been impressive though, hasn't it???
Did it make any difference? What were we saving him for, the end of the game? He had some bad calls go against him. It happens. Sitting him was not going to help. It could have been the right call if he hadn't committed another foul. You want to leave him in so he could get into a rhythm. The only reason to sit him was to save him for the end of the game, and we all know he is not needed for that.
In those situations oftentimes it helps to just remove the guy. Then the refs can get a break from seeing him and he gets removed from the situation. Sometimes a guy will do that and get one foul on the second half and finish the game out with four fouls. You're saving him because you're trying to get him as many minutes as possible.
Billups is hurting it but Cronin is not helping either so as far as i am concerned the blame between the two taking out the players is --- Billups - 40% Cronin - 60% If Cronin did his job then at least one of Grant or Ant would already be gone but he over played his hand and now he is behind the eight ball in more ways then one .
Joe Cronin didn't make the decision to bench Scoot Henderson in favor of Anfernee Simons. That's 100% Chauncey Billups. The reason everyone wants to trade Simons is because of Billups, so don't give that knucklehead a pass.
No, it was ruined already. As many of us have posted for years and been bitching about relentlessly the vets on this roster have never made sense. Billups is simply executing what Cronin designed.
