Raptors / Lakers Trade Scenario: Something Definitely Brewing

I don't have any written sources, but I came across a rumour that supposedly has Jalen Rose going the Lakers' way for Vlade Divac, Devean George, Slava Medvedenko + Miami's 2006 first round pick. Not saying it will happen or anything, but I think it makes a lot of sense for both teams. We get expiring contracts plus a first rounder (which would get us three first rounders in 2006 Draft) and allow our young guys to get more playing time at the 2/3. The Lakers get a perfect big guard to be the third guy in Phil Jackson's triangle offense. Phil Jackson supposedly is a big fan of Rose. Derek Anderson would have to refuse the Lakers' 2-year offer for this to have any chance of happening though.

    Proposed Raptors Rotation:

    C: Araujo / Sow / Woods
    PF: Bosh / Villanueva
    SF: Graham / Villanueva
    SG: Peterson / George
    PG: Alston / Calderon

    Proposed Lakers Rotation:

    C: Mihm / Brown / Bynum
    PF: Odom / Brown
SF: Rose / Cook / Walton
SG: Bryant / Vujacic / Jones
PG: FA / Vujacic / Wafer / Bobbitt

    EDIT:

I don't know if you guys know this guy, but Eric Emplay of the Swish Magazine and hoopsworld.com is reporting that something is definitely happening on the trade front. He and his wife are expecting a baby tomorrow night and hence it wasn't a top priority for him to find out what exactly is brewing, but the indications point to trading for either Eddy Curry or Jalen Rose, or both, with Rose getting higher percentages.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hey all - the baby is on her way tomorrow - exciting times!

At about 7:00 AM Pacific Maya Taylor Pincus, God willing, will have a safe arrival.

BTW - I'm hearing that a Laker trade may be brewing. I don't have anything more concrete than that. Have fun speculating - I'll be out almost all day preparing for the baby.

If I get something - I'll have it posted at Hoopsworld.

I've said this numerous times - Mitch is either a genius or a fool.

Hopefully he proves his worth over the next few days and weeks.</div>

No he didn't, it was initially reported that Divac has decided to retire, but a day later he came out and claimed the report bogus.

I believe you can still trade a retired player's contract.

My standpoint on this scenario, it sacrifices the short term, which doesn't look very pretty (most likely no playoffs) and improves our roster for the future.

really!!! I was sure he did retire... geez thats a good trade for Toronto AND the Lakers. Having 3 first round draft picks would be HUGE for us, too bad its probably going to be like the 28th-29th pick in the first round because its from the Heats. Devean George is a very nice player, he was a starter on the Lakers team that had 4 future hall of famers on. Is the Luke Jackson trade dead or what, i havent heard anything new about that deal in a while. I dont think that Derek Anderson is going to refuse a chance to play for the Lakers tho.

Derek Anderson is retarded. If you're gonna get paid close to $9 million this season from the Blazers NOT to play for them, why would you ask for another $5 million from the Lakers? Greedy bastard. [IMG]

The difference is, Divac has a $2 million buyout clause built into his contract and he will most likely retire.

care to explain why? It seems that we aren't going to make playoffs without a center and unless our chemistry majorly improves(possible). Jalen isn't in our long term plans and an additional pick could be useful.

Vlade Divac plans to retire if the Lakers trade him and will likely become a scout for the team. He does have a friendly buyout though, which makes him attractive to teams looking to shed salary cap.

Their's no comparison here, no one is expecting Divac to play.

I actually like the trade, though I don't know about losing Jalen, it would be nice. It opens up a roster spot for the youngn's, and also solidifies us having no plans for the playoffs, which means we have at least chosen a direction.

With this though, it starts to make me think of us doing what the Bulls are doing. We're now just stocking up on young/first round talent, and letting them develop together.

If we have Bosh, Charlie, Joey, Pape, Araujo, Joes, and 3 1st's next year, 1 high [ours], 1 meduim [Denver], and one low [Miami], we'll have 9 players on our roster who are young and have less than 4 years NBA experience.

i think we're giving up too much in rose juss for divac and some average players... im sure we could get an even better trade with another team if we throw in guys like aaron or eric williams.

If we throw in Aaron and Eric, that makes a salary total of about $25 million. Do you want Babcock to go get Allan Houston? He's the only player other than Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O'Neal that makes the kind of money.

Okay, I was being sarcastic, but why not? We'll be opening up roster spots for any future moves and we will be getting some immediate cap relief when Divac retires, Devean George and Slava Medvedenko become free agents, and Eric Williams and Aaron Williams come off the books next summer. I'd trade Jalen while he still has some kind of a value, rather than wait out his contract and thereby slow down the development of the youngsters.

The trade works well for both teams and it would immediatly make a big impact on the lakers. Jalen is a point guard that was forced to become a scorer on struggling teams. If he were to go to L.A. he could be come the pass first guy he used to be.

He can shoot, penetrate and at the point makes very good decisions. and he has the size to give any point guard in the league big problems because no one(point guard) can stop him from scoring. you cant swith off on defence because u cant allow a point to guard lamar or kobe. I f this were to go thru the lakers in my opinion will thake 4 or five spot in the west.

And the posatives for the raptors are definately draft picks. the raptors young players have potential and after losing vince they need new faces in the mix. Im sure team moral is very low there. they should try to do what the bulls did and totally clean shop.
george is actually a forward so he cold possibly play with peterson.

    Starting line up

    Alston
    Peterson
    George
    Bosh
    whomever

If im toronto, If there is a big man that is available in the draft take him. BOsh would flourish with a true solid center along side him.

[IMG] Jalen Rose a true point guard? Oh boy.. You haven't seen him play the point in 03-04 season, have you? He made poor decisions and hogged the ball, and was far from being a true point guard. The end result is: Failed experiment.

Actually, when Vince finally got traded the lockerroom sighed in relief and rejoiced.
