The logical thing to do would be to start Head in the preseason and see what he can do and then make a decision for our first game versus the Kings. I don't want to lose again like our first game with the Pistons last season.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting aznstud:</div><div class="quote_post">Since I think Bob sura Career is over I think they should put Derek Anderson as the starting point guard cause Mike James does better doing instant scoring as a backup. Here is my starting Five : 1)Yao Ming 2)Tracy Mcgrady 3)Stromile Swift 4)Derek Anderson 5)David Wesley So what do you Guys think?</div> We're not yet sure if Sura's career is over so don't jump yet on it. He'll be under observation for the next 2 weeks and there's a possibility that he can play by mid-november or december. The Rockets have been struggling last season due to injuries to key players but they still were able to win 51 games because there's always someone who can step up. James, Anderson and Head if given the chance could fill the point guard position nicely. With TMac contributing his shares in the assist department as well as playmaking we should not expect a lot from our combo guards. As long as they can handle the ball well and play with adequate defense they should be able to handle the point guard duties. Wesley can hold on his own man it just so happened that the Mavs got plenty of firepower that he got burned in the playoffs. If you're talking about defensive liabilities there's always a team mate who can step up like what the Nuggets do when Earl Boykins is in the game. You can't say that they're losers in having the smallest guy in the NBA.
I think James and AD can't lead us to the champion, but they will be of great help, for a long run ,we must foster a younger pg in two or three years.
I pray Sura recovers because one thing that concerns me is that Sura's loss would be bad for the team chemistry and flow that saw us winning last season and Sura was a crucial piece.
The Problem with Mike James The Problem with mike james starting is he is really a shoot first pass later guard. He's really a good guard and all but he give us more energy off the bench on the offensive side.

When we have more experienced and stable options to start at point guard including Wesley, Anderson and James. Van Gundy will definitely look to see which of those three would do best at point guard and turn to Head only as a last resort. Somewhat similar to last season when Andre Barrett had to wait for injuries to get some minutes in a meaningful game.

Yes, Anderson and James would be a good option at point gaurd, but i disagree with you saying Wesley due to the fact that he is more of a spot up shooter.

In Van Gundy's system last season, the shooting guard did just that. Jim Jackson did it, Wesley did it, and Barry/James did it. It's a good bet that Anderson will spend most of his time doing that as well. Unlike Head and Anderson, Wesley has point guard experience and is a more stable presence on the ball. He plays a style most similar to Sura's and I think starting him there will prove best for team chemistry, and also so that when Sura returns there won't be a huge shake-up in the set-up. Also, I'm sure you noticed that Ward and Lue started all our preseason games last season. Barrett barely got any minutes in.
Maybe you guys are right with spot up shooter being a big factor to the championship cause Kenny Smith long time rocket did it for us in the 2 championship
Putting Wesley at point is almost as halarious as the thought of bring back Ward............The fact remains is he didn't handle the press good last year, and theres a reason why he's reduced to a spot up shooter (he can't dribble). That's the same as asking Reggie Miller to come and start at Point guard, but Wesley is only 6 inches shorter. It ain't gon work, and if the Rockets make that move, we're going to start off in a serious hole like last year.
Rockets I think they should have derek anderson at point gaurd because he is a little more consistant the Mike James. Hopefully they would ake that decision.
Chemistry I know it takes time for a team to have chemistry thats why they either should insert Derek or Mike James to start right now so they get use to playing with Each other.
David Wesley would be my pick. Wesley is an above average ball distributor and can hit the outside shot. Wesley is also a veteran which is a plus and he seems to fit well with the Rockets system since most of the time T-Mac is the one with the ball in his hands.
Theres no WAY i see Head starting...I see Moochie (if hes still here) playing more of a role than Head will...I'd say this..DA better start either way...theres no way I'd like to see a starting backcourt of James or Wesley because neither stands taller than 6'2"...that would be a defensive liability for sure...so it better be Anderson starting at the 2 while they debate between James or Wesley as to who starts at the 1...
i seriously don't like anderson, wesley, moochie, james, head to start at point. call me insane, but i think barry should start
^he's too old. What about putting james at the two and DA at the one. They can switch spots on D. James is our best defender against point gaurds right now but wont be running teh point on O since he ballhogs a bit. Either way, he deserves a shot at the starting lineup.

Interesting, but I think James should bring it up on offense because he handles pressure very well and his speed can be confusing for teams at times. Now if only we could get him to pass the ball after coming over halfcourt. The reason I won't like to see James start is firstly because of his lack of passing skills, and secondly because I don't think Yao would benefit from playing alongside him. James is also a few steps faster than Yao and by the time James is over the half, Yao hasn't set up yet down low. It will likely decrease his touches and make it pretty hard for him to get into an offensive groove. If James can slow it a bit, he'll make a great starter with his hound's defense and perimeter shooting.
If the rockets will be without Sura, then the stating point position will probably go thrugh a lot of changes based on the matchups with opposing teams. Wesley and Anderson would split most of the starts.I gues the positive thing about having so many combo guards is the many options you have to play with. We really don't need much from that position anyway. As long as they can keep t-o's to a minimum, hit the open man, and the open jumper. the rest is just getting out of Tmac and Yoa's way.
