Check out the new look for the site..yesterday the team introduced a new flash rotating top-story bar... www.rockets.com
Rockets.com really needs to improve their website this year. Im sure some of you know that CF had been denied access to the Rockets training camp because they said it would be unfair competition to the official site. CF ended up getting access again but not after a bunch of emails from CF members. It's not good when an official team site feels threatened by a fan site. It shows that they need to make some improvements. So far so good for Rockets.com and hopefully it can continue to improve.
Like the rest of NBA.com, the site is way too cluttered. There's all this marketing stuff mixed in with the actual basketball content, and it's a pain to sift through. The flash doesn't add anything to the site, as far as usability. I'm not a member of ClutchFans, but I quickly glanced at the layout and it's vastly superior.
Agreed. The site is way to clutted. Removing a little ads would help. I also like the new bar as well. Pretty neat.

As a web designer (PM my for examples), I really like the preliminary design, but like you guys said, it's too cluttered. The main banner isn't too impressive, and neither are the drop downs, but overall, I think it's clean cut and impressive (the side bar on the left is too generic and there's not as much Flash as I'd like to see on an NBA site). I'll give the best NBA web site award to either the T'Wolves or the Grizzlies.
I Think that the design is so so. The ads dont bother me it just seems there is a lot of useless info flying around. I do, however enjoy the pics of the Power Dancers.

I think the TWolves look is bland and the Grizzlies is so-so...being more involved with content and writing, I like the websites of the Heat, Pacers, Bulls, and Cavs...I honestly think that the Rockets are in the top 5 content-wise as far as NBA.com team sites...
