im not going to bother comparing him to gilbert arenas, iverson, nash, or chris paul, as we all know these guys are a whole lot better. but, i thought maybe a comparison will help put our pg situation in persepective for some people

TJ Ford season stats thus far:

    PPG 15.4 (on 47%)
    RPG 4.20
APG 8.1 (to 3.6 turnovers per game)
    EFF + 17.23

47% shooting is pretty good for a guy who supposedly "cant shoot". i can sure live with that. i think 4 rpg is a great bonus too. since we need all the help on the boards we can get.

now granted those turnover numbers are a bit high...if he can lower that by even 1topg, I could live with that too. a guy who's doing the majority of ball handling, and is often trying to make great plays will turn the ball over...nature of the game.

lets take at some other pg's numbers thus far:

    Mike James:
    PPG 11.4 (on 40% shooting)
    RPG 2.10
APG 4.6 (2.1 turn overs per game)
    EFF + 10.58

    Jason Kidd:
    PPG 12.8 (on 41% shooting)
    RPG 8.10
APG 9.2 (to 3 turnovers per game)
    EFF + 22.31

    Rafer Alston:
    PPG 12.2 (on 39% shooting)
    RPG 3.50
APG 4.5 (to 2.2 turnovers per game)
    EFF + 12.38

    Luke Ridnour:
    PPG 15.5 (on 50% shooting)
    RPG 2.90
APG 6.5 (to 2.8 turnovers per game)
    EFF + 16.93

    Jamal Tinsley:
    PPG 11.4 (on 41% shooting)
    RPG 4.10
APG 6.1 (to 3 turnovers per game)
    EFF + 13.93

    Mike Bibby:
PPG 18.1 (on 36% shooting) - granted he is injured
    RPG 3.40
APG 5.5 (on 3.4 turnovers per game)
    EFF + 15.00

    Jameer Nelson:
    PPG 14.7 (on 55% shooting)
    RPG 2.90
APG 3.9 (to THREE turnovers per game...thats almost 1 for 1!)
    EFF + 14.07

    Tony Parker:
    PPG 19.6 (on 51% shooting)
    RPG 3.10
    APG 4.7 (to 2.6 turnovers)
    EFF + 17.57

    Andre Miller:
    PPG 14.6 (on 49% shooting)
    RPG 4.60
    APG 9.0 (to 2.1 turnovers)
    EFF + 21.17

    Kirk Kinrich:
    PPG 17.2 (on 49% shooting)
    RPG 2.70
APG 6.2 (to 2.6 turnovers per game)
    EFF + 17.23

gotta look at those numbers and give it up for TJ. you cant ask much more out of him. He's giving us a decent amount of assits, he's shooting the ball not bad at all, and to top if off, he's giving us just over 4 boards a game.

APG 4.5 (to 2.0 turnovers per game)
    EFF + 9.67

Marbury sucks now, also you forgot Deron Williams in the list of guys we know is better, and in the list of guys we can compare him to, you can also add Jarett Jack and Raymond Felton who are also starting PG's.

I think TJ's biggest problem has been when he makes his mistakes. For his assist numbers, I don't expect him to lower his TPG by 1 a game, but at least only 2.9-3 TPG, yes PER game it seems like a small thing, but those 2 less turnovers every 3 games can make a difference.

Also Jameer Nelson has been a dissapointment in his passing and taking care of the ball.

TJ has the numbers but watching him on the court still makes me shudder. He is wildly out of control and especially during crunch time we need someone that can be stable and get the ball to the right people.

One interesting thing to note...among that entire list of pg's, mike james and tj ford are the only ones playing on new teams. and the offense i mini really runs through garnett...james isnt there to be a play-maker...unlike TJ.

TJ is on a new team, playing in a new system, and being asked to be the general. I think with time, he will get more and more used to his teammates, and his teammates with him, and more comfortable with the system, and we'll see a tj that makes better descisions, and a little more under control

remember...tj is still young too. nash didnt really start to hit his stride untill his 5th or 6th year i the league...i think it will be a bit of a progression. tj isnt known for being lazy in the gym...once the holes in his game are filled...we'll have a tremendous player on our team.
