Ok my focus in this topic is the most significant... well acutally the 4(rule changes) i heard of in there 'revisising section' of there meetings of the rule book yet again. first off no player on defense may strike the qb below the knees .. i particulary don't really agree with this somewhat... i understand why b/c of carson palmers unfortunate mishap... but things tend to happen ( and on that play specifically he was blocked (von oelhoffen) into palmers knee now if you flag someone is it interpreted that they would still flag them even if it was unintenional? we will see obviously prolly not) 2. They will not circulate new balls in (like in the sb for Ex) it is to the discretion of the playcallers 3. There will be a fumble review ( even if player is ruled down) 4. NO I repeat NO celebration with objects such as the pylon or even the ground???! (now thats just sucking the fun IMO outta football some get alittle annoying and ptless but CMON) ok... i know most prolly know of these i know are only a few but more significant rule changes ok CHIME IN!!!!! LATA
You cant hit the QB below the knees....you cant hit the QB above the shoulders....you cant club his arm to cause a fumble....break out the flags....
They should just put red jerseys on them like they do in practice & say no contact allowed b/c that's where we're headed.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (bakes781)</div><div class='quotemain'>They should just put red jerseys on them like they do in practice & say no contact allowed b/c that's where we're headed.</div> I say we just give the QB's some flags and let it be like that.
I think the knee thing is not as strict as you are saying it is. I thought I heard that the rule committee all agreed that the Palmer hit would have been legal because it was 100% inadvertant. What they are looking to avoid is intentionally taking out the knees. My question is this: does wrapping a QB up by the knees count? The celebrating thing is ridiculous. People like the celebrations - they make sportscenter, bring in fans, and create conversation.
The committee members based their argument for protecting the QB as it relates to tv ratings. That's why I don't get their cracking down on the td celebrations b/c like Chad Johnson put so eloquently that is what brings in the casual fan. Defining intent is SO subjective that unless it's so blatant u really can't be for certain which is why IMO instead of increasing the flags just increase the fines & suspensions if necessary.
I don't really know what to think about the QB hitting rule, because in a sense, it'll be a good thing, but could really turn into something that is out of control, depending on how they police it. But, as long as it doesn't look like an intentional cheap shot, I think they should let it go. If anyone else can get hit, why can't the QB? What makes them so special from any other player? I don't care if they are at the head of the team or not, they should be treated no differently then any other player. Treating them like babies is just going to make them whine about more then they already do.
the whole celebration thing ticks me off. i dont like the new fumble rule. that will hcange a lot of things, i doubt it stays for more n 3 years.
I agree with you NFLFAN the celbrateing is bad. So is the fumble reveiw. VF to maybe answer your question I think its ok. But if its a tackle and maybe someone getting hurt. Tham thats might be what they are concerned on. Wow...I made an actual post for a chance?
I dont think we should have to protect the qbs anymore than we already do its a part of the position, if the quaterback is playing worried about getting hurt then he shouldnt play the game... Palmers hit was 100% legit as well might i add
IMO, they should take off all anti hit things on the QB. the only thing they should do is immediately after he throws it (when he is a bad position), but once he gets back into position, he should be legal to be hit, blocked, or w/e.
