I read a while ago that they were close to trading Pierce straight up for Ray Allen, but the Celtics don't need another wingman. They need more big men that can dominate the paint on the defensive end. They should really try to find a way to get KG while not giving up Al.
they just said a deal has been agreed to: boston sending 5th pick, delonte west, wally Syerbiak for ray allen
I think acquiring Ray Allen is great for the Celtics. Pretty low-risk trade for Boston. An injury-prone Wally, the 5th pick, and Delonte West for a multiple all-star and arguably the best shooter in the game who just finished averaging 26 PPG. Great trade for Boston.
But they already have Pierce, so I don't understand the need to have Ray Allen? Unless they plan to use one of them as trade bait?
Wow, I love this trade. There's just too much going on in my head right now to put together a coherent post, but let it be known that I love this deal.

Imagine Big Jeff drawing doubles while he can kick it out to the most potent outside duo in the NBA in Pierce and Allen. All it took was West, who was very expendable with the amount of PG's Boston has, the 5th pick and an overpaid, injury-prone Szczerbiak who is not nearly the shooter or scorer (or player for that matter) Allen is. Ray is actually one of my favorite players in the league and surprisngly I'm glad he's in Boston.
luv it..but like this trade a heap....I've always been a Jesus Shuttleworth fan....Gives us another scorer and some leadership...But hows Paul P gonna ract to this? He's been a bit grumpy lately...saying he wanted a vet to join the team or he wanted out...but did he want a big? Or another wing? Like I said I luv thi strade, but it will largely depend on what Paul thinks of it... I hope he luvs it and starts getting it going like he did when 'toinne was around and when Ricky D was aroud for a bit...running, gunning and having fun...
Ray Allen and Paul Pierce= a strong playoff team in the east. Great for both players. Both deserve some sucess.
Bostonians, can you say "Hello 2008 NBA Playoffs"? Edit: I still can't believe this is all Boston had to give up to get a great sharp shooter in Ray Allen.
great trade for Boston, absolutely amazing deal They now have a very solid starting line up and they can try to improve the bench through free agency, I see no reason why Boston can't contend for a top 4 spot in the east if Rondo can keep improving
Now we just need a point guard (after losing West, I still don't trust Rondo running the team) and a Center.
I also love this trade for the Celtics. There aren't many trios better than Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Al Jefferson. They should be up there in the East.
How do Celtics fans feel about this trade? http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trad...=10~10~10~2~2~2 Houston Sends Rafer Alston Kirk Snyder John Lucas Boston Sends Gerald Green Sebastian Telfair Brian Scalabrine
I personally think Boston got ripped of on this deal. They traded away a future prospect plus they get a 32 year old in Allen like Stephen Smith said. Boston I know is trying to win right now, but this is a bad deal for their future. I liked that they wanted a sidekick for Pierce, but for the future of Boston, this was a bad deal especially giving up the 5th pick. I know it has to take a lot to take Allen, but Celtics future doesnt look too good.
