    Marcus the Mentor
June 30, 2008, 12:06 am It would seem an unlikely role, but Marcus Williams has become mentor and host to two of the nation’s top high schoolers, Los Angeles products Brandon Jennings and Jordan Hamilton. Both have been living and working out with him and his father, Kelly, in New Jersey. He’s told Hamilton “he may have to work on shot selection” and helping Jennings decide to go to Arizona or to Europe.

Not the best to mentor those future potential stars in the NBA. [IMG]

I don't think anyone doubts Marcus' ability. It's just he's not a backup PG and he knows it. If we didn't have Harris then I would be making a case for his potential to be a good true PG in this league, but that's not the case. Anyway, I actually think he'd be a good mentor for these kids. He went through the same shit they have been through and Marcus is someone that they actually have a mutual respect for b/c Marcus isn't just some random advisor who's being paid to help. He's been there, done that, and now he's helping them out.

Well, Jennings can make like 400-500 grand by playing in Europe for a year and would be a lock as a top 5 draft pick the following year because he will likely dominate overseas. He still hasn't received his test grades (yet), and even if he qualifies for college, he still might decide to go to Europe. So, if Marcus did tell Jennings to go to Europe, it's really not that stupid of a move.

In my opinion, however, Jennings should go to Arizona (assuming he qualifies). He'll play against better competition in the Pac-10 and won't have to adjust his game to fit the international style.

Yea, Jennings better make sure it's a one year and out deal. Euro's love to put in buy out clauses.

and that's the main problem with him. he knows that, but... no one else does. why he just can't make people eat their words by playing some D, not throwing the ball in the stands and not jacking up shots from anywhere on the court? maybe... maybe he sucks?

I think the whole starter and back-up thing is a crock. There's a whole lot less pressure being the back-up than the starter. The only benefit a starter has is more time to mask their mistakes and appear productive. Nobody on the team gave a shit about Marcus' stats. He just needed to do the right thing on the court for a limited amount of time.

He just can't get the team concepts of offense and defense.

    Maybe.

Another idea is that you check this stat sheet and find his name on it. Now look in the 7th column.

He didn't look much better this year, and his injuries certainly didn't help that.

That was not Frank. Boone was given a chance and he made the best of it. If any coach gets credit for Boone it is Cartwright.

Now if Boone becomes what i think he will be this season, then maybe i will give credit where/When it is due.

He made the best of the chance he was given. If Frank was anything near a good coach Boone would of started before Collins a long time before.
