I've read a lot of people complaining about the gameplay, and that it can be fixed by downloading good rosters and sliders online. Go figure why the default ones couldn't have been fixed.
How has it been for you? For me I kept it at default and it's been okay. Still too slow for me. It's really, really difficult to defend in the low post. And way too many random shots are made.
Also, I think ALL the rookies are a tad too good. Exceptions: Rose can't make a layup or free throw, and Beasley doesn't drive the lane....
I changed game speed to 35. I don't like running around too fast; feels unrealistic to me. I've downloaded sliders and slightly tweaked them from time to time, but I'm still not getting the gameplay I want. For example, it's impossible to stop Dwight Howard. Throw the ball in the paint, and not only will he score on you; he'll dunk it in your face EVERY time. There's nothing I can do. How am I supposed to enjoy playing? I can never get out on a fastbreak because the opposition gets back D every time. I lowered the CPU's blocks to 15, and they still stuff me when I drive. Wtf? First two days I loved this game, but now I feel like I seriously wasted a lot of money. Could of saved it for something better.
I'm gonna get Live sometime next week or so, I'll let you know how that is. I'm a Live player for awhile now and Live 08 was much much better than the past Lives, I hope Live 09 improved again.
Haven't been playing for as much as I'd like to play, but I'm enjoying it. I cannot beat the fucking Hawks for some reason though with the Nets. For some damn reason, Horford (!) is IMPOSSIBLE to stop. Once he gets into the paint, it's a guaranteed bucket, AND he seems to have developed a 10 foot jumper.
This is my first NBA 2k9 and I still lose on rookie sometimes. I get blocked too much, can't defend on the break or in the post, and still miss FTs every once in a while. I don't like how hard it is to score 3s with T-Mac, I shoot perfect jumpers in practice with him and it still clanks off the rim...wtf Good thing I didn't pay for this game. It has a lot of bugs, and it will make you want to pull your hair out when you go down by 25, and love the game when you are winning. It gets harder each quarter, and by the 4th the computer starts making everything and stopping everything. Goaltending is bs, even when the ball is completely off the rim it gets called.
Yeah, there are a lot of flaws with the game. The goaltending issue bugs the hell out of me cause it usually happens when I'm finally making a damn comeback. I have problems with the development shooting as well. It'll say perfect, but it'll miss....didn't know Rasheed was that bad.
No doubt dude, I was 0-7 (default sliders, shitty roster) in my association before I finally won. I'm 2-9 now, and just starting to get the hang of what it takes to win. I don't cheeze either, I pass the ball around and get everyone involved. This is my roster: C Stromile Swift / Anderson Varejao / Kwame Brown PF Luis Scola / Kenyon Martin / JJ Hickson SF Andrei Kirilenko / Darius Miles SG Michael Redd / Shannon Brown PG Steve Nash / Delonte West Not the best team, actually I'm rated like 2 or 3 bars tops on all 3 categories on the team select screen where my opponents teams are usually ratd like 6-7 bars, each. So I'm at a serious disadvantage, but I'm learning the hard way I guess I don't want to adjust the silders myself, it feels like I'm cheating if I touch them.
Well whatever you adjust for the AI, adjust for the human user too. Problem is you need to tweak the sliders in a big way to get something even resembling a basketball game. It's a terrible product this year. Two of the big issues of 2K8 in AI blocking and AI offensive rebounding seem to have gotten worse, while the amount of steals/tipped balls is also ridiculous. It's nearly impossible to run a fast break as players stop upon receiving the pass, and hard to run a pick and roll as most passes to the cutter end up tipped away or the player dropping the ball. Players don't dunk either. I was using Chris Wilcox before, and every time he had an open lane to the basket, he hesitates and throws up a lay-up, and when he does take it to the rim, it's another lay-up. All well and good if half of these didn't get placed (and I mean literally placed) on the edge of the rim and back out. At least on 2K8 players would attack the rim when they had a clear lane. I just get the feeling this series is getting complacent, the same way PES has and Fifa is catching up.
I'm getting beastly at 2k9. My defenses are great, especially with a team like the Spurs or Celtics. The Bulls defense is a little weak, but I can run their offense so well. I have some good sets with the Bulls where I play small ball, and a little big ball, which have worked out very effectively so far.
2k9's online is absolute shit though. You can't set double teams, which makes the game completely unplayable because without them, it's near impossible to stop a superstar like Lebron or Yao.
