"Each successive decade of the post-war era has seen it smash social standards, riot and fight to revolutionize every aspect of music, art, government and civil society." I don't really get the last part of the article. Basically it says the new generation is shallow and can't come up with any new ideas? Well from the quote above, it mentions that new trends start up after war, so I'm guess a new trend rather than the "hipster" will start up after we finish the war in Iraq or whatever we're fighting for, if we ever do get out... Interesting read though huevon.
Lol no, it was just something a friend sent me and I was curious about what other people thought. I got the impression my friend was very impacted by this article, so I wanted to see if other people would receive the same intrinsic connection.
PMed you just before you posted. :O Well in short, new trends normally start, but we appear to be stuck in a loop/Dead-End according to the author, after Western Culture conquered various social problems. Marketing has created the "counter-culture" in this era, and decides what is played out. One of the articles main points: I thought it made some valid points, but I'm a bit more optimistic about our youth.
Yeah I read your PM. Thanks for clarifying. This seems like something you'd discuss in a Philosophy class. lol
What a doom & gloom assessment of today's youth. I do catch myself scratching my head about some of the dumb things I see from the generation younger than me, but when I was that age I also made dumb decisions. Part of being young is discovering things on your own even though your peers tell you not to and in the back of your mind you know they're right, but still you need to find out for yourself. I don't think it's fair to damn an entire generation for being youthful. What I find amazing about those younger than me is how fast they can process information because of all the resources available now. Their ability to multi-task makes them a lot more productive and the technological advances over the past 10 years has made communication around the world simple, which has in turn made the world smaller. This forum is a microcoism of the world. There's posters on here from various countries offering unique viewpoints. Hopefully this ease of communication will lead to countries having a more peaceful existence with one another. The more you learn and understand about a culture the better.
Well of course there will always be some top tier group of people that will contribute greatly to our civilization, but I think the author would contend that we're sort of in shallow era of pop-culture at least. I do think the main-stream music scene blows for example, and you can even see some of the allusions he made to that at the start of his article. Further every generation is more tech savvy than the previous one, so that is somewhat expected. I've always considered this forum to be filled with pretty much intelligent and reasonable people, in that sense it might not be a microcosm.
What are you people doing for the game on Sunday? I already got Mamba's and Rizzle's responses on that.
How come in class I always get random boners when I'm not even thinking about sex. Like I'll be taking notes or something in history class and I'll get an erection. wtf...
