Well, they were quite "active" last summer as well, and look where that got us. I'd like to get into the trading spirit, but it's hard to with zero confidence in the front office. I think they have at least as good a chance to screw it up even worse by being active as they do to make improvements.
I wouldn't mind him on the team. Hes had a nice season after a shitty one last season. I doubted him earlier when he was rumored to come here but he proved me wrong and proved many on this board right. Fits well next to Monta, decent defender, can really handle it and manage the rock, can shoot pretty well. I kinda wonder if he'd be shitting on Beli's development though. Belinelli could really turn into a Kirk Hinrich-esque player. Hes already a good shooter, got PG type vision, playing good defense despite average NBA athleticism, pretty smart player, etc. Hinrich currently has the better handle and turns the ball over a lot less but he makes a lot more and Beli could certainly become as good or better than Hinrich in a short period of time. Worst case hes like a poor man's Hinrich right now but hes making like 1/4 of what Hinrich is. I guess my answer is that I'd take him if it meant we could pawn off Craw or Mags to Chi. I wouldn't give up anyone with a good contract, a prospect, or picks though. BTW nice sig legacy lol.
Exactly. All three make about the same $$, and to me Heinrich would be so much better than those two if he played for GS. Monta could finally move back to SG. Heinrich is a solid PG who can pass, shoot and defend his position. It would a much better fit than having Craw at PG or having Mags at "destroy team chemistry" position. Heinrich Monta Jax Randolph Beans That's a clean fit for everyone. I like it.
Hinrich would be okay, but he's got a big contract that runs through 2012. That's why the Bulls would be willing to part with him. They would have to take Crawford (assuming he doesn't opt out) or Mags (preferable) back in any kind of deal. The other PGs worth pursuing are Ramon Sessions and Raymond Felton who should come at a cheaper price. What bothers me is Rowell and Nelson continue to say Monta is their PG. I'll read Tim K. a lot less if they started saying they'll go for a PG during the off-season.
I would not go for Hinrich. The biggest reason why Crawford can't play with Monta is not because he isn't pure PG, but because he and Monta can't guard anybody. I don't think Hinrich is an upgrade over Crawford in terms of defense. Well, I guess I wouldn't mind too much if we swap Crawford for Hinrich, but then, I doubt either teams will improve via that trade...
I'd love to have Hinrich. Finally somebody that has offensive and defensive talent. I don't like players that score a lot and do diddly on defense.
Hinrich is actually a very good defender. In fact, if he came to the Warriors, he'd probably be the best defender on the team.
Can he play individual defense though? We need somebody who can stand in front of other team's guards. I mean, if he can mimic what Davis did at defense end, like guarding other teams' SG, and play physically, sure why not? But, what I read in Bulls' board is that he wasn't exactly a good individual defender. Of course, I could be dead wrong though...
? Crawford is probably the worst defender in the league. He's paper thin and can't guard anyone. Opposing guards walk right through him. He plays matador defense. He doesn't get in front of anyone. When the shot goes up, he stands and looks. He rarely boxes out anyone, including the opposing PG. He allows penetration on almost every position. I can't think of a defender I respect less than Crawford. Meanwhile, you have Heinrich, a guy who in college received the Ted Owens’ Defensive Player Award his junior year, and made the Big 12 All-Defensive Team his senior year, and then made the NBA All-Defensive Second Team just 2 seasons ago. He's scrappy, gritty, and from what I've seen with the Bulls, he can get down and defend opposing PGs. IMO, a clear defensive upgrade over Craw. Then again, a house plant would be a defensive upgrade over Craw...
Yeah, but can Hinrich guard SG though? Because, Monta certainly can't guard SG. I mean, if Hinrich can somewhat contain other team's SG, then why not? But, if Monta and Hinrich line up still get slaughtered like right now, then we will have similar problem as we have right now. Well, maybe not too similar, because Crawford simply can't guard anybody. It's amazing how he can't guard anybody considering he has height, quickness and has some basketball IQ. Anyway, that's the difficulty of having undersized SG in the line up, and it's just hard to find big PG, who can guard SG. And, while Monta is good, he isn't Iverson like good. Or, should we just trade Monta and get everything over with? Play Monta PG and hope for the best? Or, bring Davis back?
Actually, I am. At his position. Randolph and Turiaf are good blockers but not much else, at this point. They hustle and block shots and they also pick up a lot of fouls. That's why Turiaf is a backup; Biedrins is a better defender than Turiaf. He's taller, doesn't pick up as many fouls, and gets better defensive rebounding position than Turiaf. Randolph will be a good to very good defender in a few years. I don't base defense on physical ability only. It has a lot more to do with your awareness. So, with that being said, yes, Hinrich is a better defender than those two. Like DC mentioned, he was 2nd team defense. None of our guys have that accolade.
That's an undersized backcourt, but at least there would be some defensive presence. Defense isn't all about staying in front of your guy. It's about knowing where your teammates are to help, spacing, and all that crap the Warriors are not very good at. Team defense is much more important than individual defense (see how the Rockets owned the Warriors the other night by collapsing the paint whenever someone got by their guy). I think Hinrich would definitely help in that category. As AO said, a house plant would be an upgrade over Crawford.
Hinrich has typically drawn the opposing team's best player. Until he got hurt last season, he routinely gave Wade a difficult time. He's guarded SFs a lot as well when the Bulls play 3 guards. He's a man defender.
I'll give you my full critique of him. Solid man defender, can guard bigger players. As a PG, he dominates the ball and gets 6 APG in full-time minutes. I'd prefer he dribbled around a lot less and trusted his teammates to distribute the ball as well. He's a legit 6'3", a little on the small side to play full time at SG. He's also a little on the small side to finish at the rim with ease - wide open he makes it, if contested he'll keep on dribbling past the basket. I think he tends to take the kinds of shots that blows leads. While his FG% and 3pt% are decent, I get frustrated with the misses at inopportune times. He's a very intelligent player. He's not going to kill you when you're closing out games (just in Q3 when you're up by 10). Doesn't turn the ball over much, and has good court vision as a passer. Outstanding FT shooter, so when you're up and want to freeze out opponents, he's a guy you want to get fouled. He's also got an outstanding attitude. His contract is on the big side for how he's being played in Chicago, and runs through 2012 (I believe). He'd be ideal as the PG for LA, alongside Kobe, Portland alongside Roy, NJ alongside Carter, and probably would be just fine in GS next to Monta. He'd be a great replacement for Bibby in Atlanta, too.
