    ^ wow...

    so much for penny pinching

If we're going to spend the MLE I'd rather go after a point guard though. Mike Miller would be awesome for the team but PG is the number one need. I'd go after someone like Felton, or split the MLE between Blake and maybe Kyle Korver, who said he's 95% certain he won't be back in Utah.

Oh and Jerry Buss gave Mike Miller until midnight tonight to accept the deal. So the ball is in his court. Jerry not playing games.

Mike Miller is an awesome ballhandler.

He's a cross between point forward and SG.

I think if we spend the MLE on Mike Miller, then Lamar Odom is gone. We'll probably dump him on a team with cap space and get a cheaper backup big in return.

I just cannot see Jerry adding so much to the payroll after all the talk about him wanting to cut costs. I could be wrong of course, but anyways, it's always great to see the management trying to improve the team.

Re: Free Agency Watch Thread (Update: Lakers Offer Mike Miller 5 Years 30 Million)

ive noticed a bit of a trend with the lakers when they are making roster changes, that they always seem to use "smoke-screens", like the reports of jerry cutting costs, then do the opposite, or make an unexpected move. i dont buy that jerry buss is trying to cut costs, the lakers are a hugely profitable orgnization, and jerry is the best owner in the world, he will pay money from his own pocket to build winning teams for us laker fans.

anyway, mike miller would be a great addition, its funny that the lakers are adding players that have had awkward "scuffles" with kobe in the past. first ron, now rumours of adding matt barnes, raja bell and mike miller.

ofcourse we'd all like to see lakers add a solid pointguard, but you have to remember that in the triangle, the point position is really very different to other offensive strategies. fishers main role is not the initiator as much as he is the outside threat, and with his shooting and productivity down the last two seasons, lakers need to add an outside shooter like mike miller. but with that shooting we also need someone who moves well without the ball, another of fishers duties, a good passer, ballhandler for bringing the ball into play.

    good points AKIRA

Then this confirms my beliefs that if we sign Miller then LO will most likely be on his way out. If Miller can play point forward he essentially takes over LO's most valuable asset to this roster. I'm pretty sure if we sign him LO won't be a Laker next year.

Also, we won't have to wait long to know what happens. Mitch and Jerry aren't playing around. If Mike doesn't want to come here for an opportunity to win a ring, we're going after somebody else.

If we manage to get Mike Miller/Tmac + Blake/Watson then ill dub our offseason a success!

I don't think we're adding too much since we let farmar go, and might even let shannon walk if he can't be had for what we think he's worth. plus fisher's contract is up and its expected that were gonna sign him for less... so i think this pretty much evens things out in terms of what buss will pay this coming year compared to last.

BSPN is reporting that Miller and the Lakers have met, but no contract has been offered.

    Who to believe???

If we don't land Miller though, I hope we go after Kyle Korver.

Re: Free Agency Watch Thread (Update: Lakers Offer Mike Miller 5 Years 30 Million?)

my gut feeling is that mike miller doesnt take the bait. he has a timetable to sign and he has to do it by tonight i think. i think we should go after blake and anthony morrow, if we cant land morrow then we go after tmac. if we somehow land mike miller then odom may be on his way out, so who do we trade for? cap space? young big guy? what team in the nba would want to take on odoms contract in exchange for one of their big men?

God, I hope this happens. I've always loved Mike Miller.

If this is the case, someone is on the move or Shannon isn't coming back.

If the deadline report is correct, then we won't have to wait too long to find out.

    I like the deadline rumor.

Once LeBron, Wade, and Bosh are set, all these good role players are going to be scooped up quickly to build around the stars. I like how the Lakers' are making a move on one of the better FA's that isn't an A level star before any of the A level stars sign.

I'd love Mike Miller, though I don't necessarily think it means we'd be dumping LO. While inconsistent, he's still a great back-up plan for when Bynum inevitably gets hurt. He also helps us with our length advantage too, and I don't know if that's something we should give up. Plus, imagine how strong our bench gets with both Miller and Odom on it? Two good ball handlers that are both capable scorers coming off the bench is not a bad thing to have.

I don't think it means we dump Odom either if we get Miller. It means we dump Sasha and his expiring contract =)

Re: Free Agency Watch Thread (Update: Miller, Lakers in serious negotiations)

Another option is Sign and trade with the Wizards.

We've got some expiring pieces we can trade such as Sasha or maybe Odom for Miller + fillers?
