I got into a discussion with a friend of mine, about how "liberals" control hollywood and TV/movies.

The jist of our discussion was based on a question we were talking about.

you can tell some TV shows have more of a "liberal" slant in their writing styles, with snide comments about certain things (you just can tell). They aren't blatant about it, but you if you are versed in political things (and things regarding liberal vs conservative thinking), you can read it.

Are there any famous comedies written by current day neo conservative writers?

It's fairly safe to assume that the writers of Family Guy (Cleveland Show and American Dad) are more liberal than conservative. You could argue the writers of the Simpsons are too.

I don't know about How I met your mother, Big Bang theory or Modern family (among other current day comedies). I think it's a safe bet they lean more left than right.

Is the stereotype of Conservatives not being really funny (I do find Dennis Miller funny, when he's not pontificating) true? Would a conservative TV show be funny, or would it be too much like a sitcom from the 80's and early 90's and come off dated?

I'm not saying that all comedies or comedians are liberal, or that conservatives can't be funny. But I think they're PJ O'Rourke funny.

I do think that the guys from South Park are more libertarian, but I could be wrong.

Parker & Stone are libertarians but they routinely take both sides to task, as does Penn Jillette. Wouldn't really classify those guys as conservative or liberal. Lewis Black might also fit in there somewhere since he is a bi-partisan hater but I think under the surface he is more blue than red.

I remember this discussion on the board some years ago. Anthony Cumia (of Opie & Anthony), sometimes Don Imus, the Blue Collar Comedy assholes, and Dennis Miller are about the biggest conservative comedians going. Depending on who you talk to apparently Rush Limbaugh is a comedian as well. Not much else out there and probably for good reason.

Red Eye on Fox News is a comedic show with a hard right slant, as you might expect. It's on too late so I've never watched but a few comedians I know (like Jim Norton) have been on and speak highly of it.

I believe Fox also tried something to counter The Daily Show called 1/2 Hour News Hour but it flopped pretty hard.

From my personal experiences and opinions, most conservatives don't have good senses of humor, so it makes perfect sense.

I've really seen a connection between political views and how funny people are. I know people on both sides with great senses of humor and people on both sides with no sense of humor. It's a bunch of nonsense, really.

There are so few neo-conservative writers simply because learning, as in learning how to write, requires at least a smattering of intelligence.

If the topic is writers, I don't know that many in general.

However, I can name a few conservative comedians: Ray Romano, Drew Carey, Patricia Heaton, Kelsey Grammer, Joan Rivers,

I think it's more interesting that the action heroes aren't liberals. Bruce Willis, Schwarzenegger, Syvlester Stallone, The Rock, Clint Eastwood, etc., are all conservatives.

Comedy generally requires more intelligence, that's why the action stars are conservative.

It's harder to be a liberal comic because you have to operate from the false assumption that all people are exactly the same.

A similar question is, why are military and crime writers conservative. I don't know. I can't figure it out.

    this is silly

even if you are a hard core neo con, you better write liberal comedy, because the majority of people with tvs are liberal

its simple fucking supply and demand

Maybe it has something to do with taking things seriously or holding things sacred.

Indeed; most of the funniest conservative comics are still on AM radio, because their audience thinks FM radio is a fad.
