Rumor: Blazers to offer Pekovic "massive" deal?

yes, but the 5.91M will be split over 5 years, so the cap hit is only 1.18M a year.

It's an option, if you REALLY need that extra (2.89M-1.18M)= 1.71M in space this summer it would get you.

It seems like teams are dumping better players than Freeland for cap space. It's an option.

But I wouldn't do it to give Pek a "massive" deal. Yikes.

Yes the stretch provision saves us cap space this year but puts it on our cap in future years. Not a good strategy unless we are making a run at contending right now.

At this point, I'd rather have Jermaine O'Neal. He's cheaper, would sign a shorter-term contract and could tutor Leonard and Withey.

Book me a seat on the Jermaine Train!

Choo-choo!

He'd be great with our rookie Ivory Towers. (I'm still treating Leonard with rookie expectations.)

So if not Pekovic who should Olshey be chasing (via trade as well as free agency)?

Almost anyone but the guys we have and Kaman or Zaza....seriously

Unless we are tanking, and then start Leonard

Then he might as well do what he can get to get as much value out of an Aldridge trade as he can. His leverage is only going to decline next year.

I guess that makes me the altar boy.

we are screwed if they don't as well. 14 mil for Pek is too much.

Maybe, but if it convinces LaMarcus to stick around I think it's worth it. That's what this whole off-season should be about. Try to get LaMarcus to buy into sticking around long term. If you can do that I don't care what we're offering for who.

But if you can't just don't bother. Or limit yourself to 3 year contracts so you can go after a free agent in 2016.

They just signed Martin to a 4 year deal. Where do they have all this money?

Almost nothing will convince LA to stick around Portland. He's gone. Now, we wait and get the best deal we can for him.

Plus, having Love out most of the season probably helped his stats a little. Certianly gave him more chances at RB's.

Actually, that makes me feel better. Can't say he benefited by Love's double-teams. (Of course, Love doesn't get double-teamed anyway.)

The Cavs brought in all sorts of crappy veterans to appease LeBron, how did that work out?

How about our GM does the best job of improving the roster? Then let LaMarcus decide if he wants to be a part of an up and coming winner or go to a cellar dweller in a bigger city.

We could try to buy Freeland out, perhaps there is mutual interest on both sides to send him back to Europe. We could waive and stretch Freeland, it would spread his contract out over 5 seasons but save us almost $2 million this year giving us just under $11 million in space. Then we could offer Pekovic a deal in the range of 4 years $46 million.

I bet Barcelona has interest, and possible CSKA Moscow. However, I get the distinct impression that Freeland really wants to be in the NBA now and wouldn't agree to a buyout.

I would take Lopez, Robinson, Williams, Wright over Pekovic.

Well Pek is far better than an average rotational player, but he has some major deficiencies in his game. At this price he’s way overpaid. Funny they wouldn’t give Love a 5 year extension but they give one to Pek. Can he be the 3rd best player on a title contender? At the dollars he earns the team won’t have much opportunity to improve through free agency so this is one of those contracts that locks a team into mediocrity.
