I'm thinking because he was suggesting this board as well.

Well hopefully some new faces and some more activity over here this evening. I notice at times a lot of folks checking the board out so we shall see.

Are you really old enough to have seen the Yankees in 1959? :)

...Mantle was my hero back when I was very yound and barely old enough to swing a bat...I remember watching them on The Game of the Week (Saturday game)...also used to watch Mantle, Willie, Snider, Hank, et al on Home Run Derby...but it wasn't until 2002 that I finally went to yankee Stadium.

One of the channels used to show repeats of the Home Run Derby show. It was tremendous back then how they had all the greats going up against each other like that.

I played baseball from t-ball through senior year of HS. I wore #7 because Mantle was my favorite player.

I just watched "The Ghosts of Flatbush Part II" on HBO (I think). It was awesome to see some of those old players again.

NY had three great center fielders back then: Willie Mays, Snider, and Mantle. Somehow the city of New York allowed TWO franchises to leave out of stupidity on the politicians' part.

Yeah, same here...EVERYBODY wanted #7 on their LL jersey...and in order to earn that privilege, I had to beat up every other 8 year old kid in my neighborhood...sometimes I won and got to wear #7...sometimes I got my ass kicked and had to settle for Yogi's #8. :biglaugh:

I wish there was a way that "Yankee classics" could show games from the 60s. I wonder why they can't.
