Sky is reporting that Barca have bid £10million for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen. I don't know about this once since it seems Verm would play as much with Arsenal as he would with Barca. If a team that wanted him as a starter came along that'd make more sense to me. Guess it's up to him where he wants to go and what kind of role he requires. I think he's only 28 which gives him at least a few more years of top flight football. I'd rather he stay but I wouldn't begrudge him for leaving.
Re: Barca in for Vermaelen? Better Barca than domestic. Any suitable replacements? We'll be thin on support and I don't rate Miquel.
Re: Barca in for Vermaelen? I thought Héctor Bellerín looked pretty great this weekend. Guess he's more of a wing though.
Re: Barca in for Vermaelen? Bellerin was awesome! His bit of skill was pretty impressive and he had a nice assist too. Things don't look too great for Jenko...
Re: Barca in for Vermaelen? Jenko is a great crosser of the ball and he plays his guts out. He's still young. Wenger doesn't give up on young players very often. I think he'll still get his opportunity next year or the year after. If Verm leaves we will probably sign some veteran to play cover. I don't know how many good or promising players want to be a sub. I would love to sign Ashley Williams.
Re: Barca in for Vermaelen? That'd work, too. I don't know what kind of obscene wages he's been on with City but that'd probably be a sticking point.
Re: Barca in for Vermaelen? Probably a lot more than we're willing to play, but he'll probably feature much more for Arsenal than City. Shame about Khedira's wage demands too.
Re: Barca in for Vermaelen? http://www.mundodeportivo.com/20140...ofensiva-final-por-vermaelen_54412834793.html Says a Barca delegation is in London ahead of Verm's transfer. Murdersacker for skipper?
Re: Barca in for Vermaelen? According to @JWTelegraph, Thomas Vermaelen already has a deal-in-principle to join United. Club want to sell abroad.
Re: Barca in for Vermaelen? Vermaelen prefers United since he's good buddies with Robin van ****face. This summer:
Re: Arsenal agree £15m fee with Barcelona Verm's on his way to Barca for £15m Good bit of business, that
Re: Barca in for Vermaelen? Sounds like Wenger said 'no dice' to MUFC and insisted that if they wanted Verm, we wanted Smalling. We wanted Smalling?
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20140809/vermaelen-agrees-to-join-barcelona Thomas Vermaelen has agreed to join Barcelona in a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee. Belgium international Vermaelen, 28, who joined Arsenal from Ajax in June 2009, made a total of 150 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, during which time he scored 15 goals. Vermaelen had been club captain for the past two seasons and was no stranger to the captain’s armband, having previously held the role with Ajax, where he spent nine years after joining from Belgian side Germinal Beerschot. Vermaelen has also skippered the Belgium national team and has now made 47 appearances for his country. Vermaelen passed his medical in Barcelona on Saturday. His transfer is subject to the completion of the normal regulatory process. Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Thomas for his contribution during his time at the club and wish him well for the future.
