I hate to bring this up but didn't Dwight Jaynes kind of mentor/father Chris Haynes? They worked together quite a bit and I would bet that Haynes would have a lot of good things to say about Jaynes. I just find it a bit amusing that people are saying Haynes was the only Portland reporter I liked.
Nice promotion for Chris. HUGE downgrade going from Portland to Cleveland though. Covering the circus known as LeBron James will be fun and totally forget you're in .....Cleveland.
Jaynes, Canzano, and Quick have been around Portland for a long time and they can talk about other sports in depth than just basketball which I like and IMO, this city needs. I'd even throw and Aarron Fentress into that mix as well. I tend to believe off recent trends that the one dimensional personalities need to go to bigger markets where they can get away with their bullet points instead of in-depth perspective on multiple sports. Chad Doing knew almost nothing about sports, Abbey Chin couldn't give an opinion unless she read it off a paper, and while I liked Chris Haynes's personality and seems like a great guy, he needs to be in Cleveland where there's more sports than here. Good for him, I'm sure it will work out well.
But, you just put Haynes with the other "no sport knowing" people, and say he needs to be around more sports. But the others you mentioned (Dwight, Canzano) Need to stay here because they cover other sports in a one sport town? Anyone else confused?
Don't get the hype. He's a bad writer, and serves as mouthpieces for agents. Candace Buckner was better when she was with the Columbian-- and she landed a job covering the Pacers.
Yeah, this is where I'm at. He may be a good guy, and the players may like him and be more likely to open up to him for all I know, but he is a bad writer, and I still remember what a tool he was as Kahn's mouthpiece during the Batum negotiations. Meh. I can take him or leave him. Canzano and Quick however: I'll buy their plane tickets out of town.
While I don't respect his "analysis", he actually did very little of that. He is actually a reporter instead of a pontificator/windbag/in-love-with-himself-douche.
That's what Chris gets for stealing Dwight Jaynes limelight. Jaynes probably bought his ticket to Cleveland.
Be interesting to see who gets the gig along side Dwight Jeyans...perhaps someone from this forum? HCP??
Man I would be an amazing beat writer FAMS! Just not so sure about all that commercial travel during the season. Sent from my baller ass iPhone 5S...... FAMS!
I surely couldn't do it. It means that I would have to dance to much to make two huge organizations happy and sell out in the process. I think Comcast should replace Haynes with Steve "Snapper" Jones. That guy used to cut through all they hype and get to the bottom line. Some people didn't like him but I liked him. He was usually he was spot on 99/100 times and it was a fair approach.
^ did this guy just say he wanted 72 year old Snapper who format even live in Portland to be a beat writer for that minor league circus called CSN? Sent from my baller ass iPhone 5S...... FAMS!
Yep, I sure did. Are you discriminating against our older generation? I don't even care if he lives in Houston now. It's pretty clear that you don't understand this but Steve Jones grew up in Portland and went to Franklin High School. His brother, who was actually a better player than Steve played with my father. Why are you trying to be a clown? I'd take Steve any day of the week as a prefer solid content over hype which leads to a smarter fan base.
