If this attack was not perpetrated by N Korea then what does the government stand to gain by lying and acting like it was? If the attack was perpetrated by N Korea then why is this the first thing they have done?
I see it as Russia 0.00001 US .999999 North Korea can't even trip over its own dick, let alone unleash a series of cyber attacks. The DPRK got state-sponsored help with the attacks. The White House confirmed that the attacks weren't executed from within the country. North Korea only has one ally who is dumb enough/competent enough in this area to commit the acts, and that is Russia. Whatever. Obama crashed Russia's entire economy through sanctions and pressuring Saudi Arabia to produce oil like mad, breaking the back of OPEC and pushing the price of oil off a cliff. And then when Russia and Venezuela's economies went into free fall and they couldn't afford to support Cuba, he (hopefully permanently) reoriented alliances in the region, and normalized relations. That's some gangstah' stuff. So Russia cancelled a movie? Obama fucking destroyed their entire cold war alliance.
Well, Russia threatening to commit 911 style attacks on theatergoers would literally inspire chaos, on Christmas of all days.
Dude, this take is so astonishingly factually incorrect I almost don't know where to start. But let's try: 1. They most certainly do have the capability. Just today CNN reported there is a unit of more than 1800 North Korean Cyber warriors. They are a "hand-picked, pampered elite." 2. It was in fact state sponsored by N. Korea, according to the White House. 3. North Korea's only ally is China, not Russia. 4. Saudi Arabia is producing oil to kill fracking, not OPEC. 5. Russia hasn't supported Cuba in over a decade. 6. Russia had zero to do with this, and there is no "Cold War alliance." The Cold War ended in 1989. Your response was factually incorrect on every single thing you said. It would be funny if it weren't so sad.
It was purely a market-based decision; the movie is insured if it doesn't release, and I bet the numbers on the movie looked shaky even before North Korea threatened to give the movie goers CanderAIDS if they went... the free market determined they'd make more money not showing the film at all.
Obama: Sony Made a Mistake Pulling The Interview http://gizmodo.com/obama-sony-made-a-mistake-pulling-the-interview-1673268761
This group threatened 9/11 style attacks at Theatres playing the movie. Obama's a fucking dumbass to say Sony made the wrong decision, after they aim to lose billions of dollars more if they were to release this movie plus have to incur the liability if a terroist attack on a movie theatre were to happen.
There are thousands and thousands of movie theaters in the country. The chance of these wannabe's putting a bomb in one is as likely as a mental dude shooting up the place. Meaning, we should worry more about our own than some dumb-shit group in North Korea. Cancelling a fucking movie out of fear? Bullshit. Un-American. Fucking fear mongering. The pussification of this country is appalling. Hell, if companies are that scared, make the people sign a god damned waiver releasing them of liability in the case of some fuck-asses from NK bombing you.
Its a smart business decision. It reduces their liability and stops the leak of whatever they had on their servers. Like I said, if ANYTHING happened anywhere, Sony is looking at multi-million dollar suits up the wazoo. The leaks of future movie plots, embarassing corporate emails, entire films would have continued. Its easy to say when its not your money or your ass on the line and you can just yell "Let's do it for 'Murrica".
Meh, I get it. I do. And from a business decision I can understand. But from a moral one, I don't. I think it's bullshit, that they are going to allow themselves to be bullied and in turn allow the bully to continue to demand shit from them. When does it stop? "Hey Sony, you must now never make another movie again, or all your data is leaked." And to the people. To allow yourself to be steered away from a movie because of baseless threats from a shitty Country? F-that.
We should find a hillside within view of his home, and carve "Hi, There, Kim!" in giant letters formed with bomb craters.
