Wonder when this happened. Maybe before the Hood signing, because they needed to know? Or before the Whiteside trade since they had that and maybe another deal lined up. That doesn't make sense either because we can only offer him the vet min at that point. Either way, bye Kanter. Was a good half season. Dude definitely talks a lot but I'm still gonna hold him in good regards because he played his ass off for us.
The time pressure is a killer when you have artificial deadlines and moving pieces. I understand Kanter's frustration, but also understand Olshey needing to get an answer. My guess is Kanter's agent knew what we could offer and Kanter had more time because he was tipped off before it became official. It's just that we needed an answer as quickly as we could formulate an official offer.
No, it doesn't work like that. The only chance Portland had to keep both was if Hood took $4.16 million next year. Otherwise we had to choose one or the other. We would have had to trade ET, Harkless, and Leonard for nothing in return (basically impossible) just to sign both to the deals they got.
My (educated) guess is the Blazers always prioritized Hood, which is why that deal got locked up so quickly. Makes sense, Hood is a more valuable player and there is some sunk cost in there with the 2 seconds we gave to get him. We offered Kanter the min and told him he had 6 minutes to make a decision because the Whiteside deal was on the table and it was too good to pass up. Kanter considered the deal because he wanted to come back, but wanted to consult his family because 1.7M vs 5M is a big difference even if you love Portland. If the money was the same I think Kanter would have been a Blazer already. Neil couldn't wait around for Kanter to make his decision, especially since there is a good chance he would have taken the money and we would be out the Whiteside deal, so bam. Things were done.
I think Whiteside fell into our laps because the Dallas trade fell apart. I don’t think it was on the table.
So actually what you are saying is i'm correct. If NO would have talked hood into signing for 4.16 mill next year and sold him on, "take less so we can get these guys and win it all"... There WAS a way to get all of them. See?
Yeah, either he's known since he signed here in February the max we could offer him or his agent is a moron. There is no way he didn't understand that Portland would need a quick decision.
I've been saying this for months that this is the only way. Basically what you are saying is Olshey sucks because he couldn't convince a guy who took way less than his value that he should've taken even less money? Curry signed for $8 million a year. It wouldn't have been physically possible to re-sign all 3 of those guys.
It saves them money and puts them under the hardcap. But they still someone to offload a few contracts to in order to complete the Jimmy S&T. Even if Dallas isn't participating, they will still need to find a 3rd team regardless.
Okay man. Not sure where you are getting any of that. did you read my post??? "Trade Trent for cap space. Seems with how many scenarios money can be manipulated, if NO wanted to he could have made it/something work. Not that im upset in the least." Maybe you missed that bolded underlined part? Not even sure how you remotely came to that conclusion. It was just a thought and my thought, you proved, could have been done, right? So why we arguing? LOL
Dude... who is complaining?.. I said (for the third time now) i'm not upset in the least. It was just an observation......
He had a choice, and he chose. If he loved Portland, the success of last season, knew how much the fans liked him, and seen the direction of the club, then it should've been a no brainer. It's a business; he was exercising his business side in considering Boston, and Portland was exercising their business in wanting a decision so they could pull the trigger on Whiteside. GL in Boston.
It would be equally accurate to say, "If Neil talked Kawhi into signing for the MLE, we could have got him" Sometimes things that may be theoretically possible are also unrealistic and not worth mentioning.
Funny how he ended up with less than what he would’ve gotten with Portland, assuming this was before the Hood agreement. I doubt we were offering the minimum.
Well of course, but then that would be a $20 mill some odd difference compared to 1.5mill and you are comparing them? 1.5 mill seems realistic. not 22mill like you are suggesting with Kawhi. Apples to Oranges. Are you guys really trying to dissect my post like this??? Its been proven he could have got them all, like I said. Not sure what the big deal is...... I said it was just an observation and im not upset in the least.
