I think Hollins is a really good, under-the-radar candidate.

Oh, it is. But, he wasn't head coach. The Lakers had two stars plus the blessing of the NBA. The Blazers don't have that. Kidd's "championship" experience with the Lakers won't mean shit in Portland.

Even if he did sit on the bench and “watch”, I assume he probably learned a thing or two about *coaching* being part of a championship staff. Hell he even admitted he pretty much learned how to not be a douchebag and to “have more fun” as a coach.

Its just funny when fans think they know the inner workings of an nba coaching staff. We have no idea how involved Kidd was or wasn’t in regards to game plans, development, etc. But if the praise is so universal, it’s probably not a smart move to just completely dismiss it.

Yes, but he seems too rigid and authoritarian (too “old school”) to mesh with today’s players. He has had two opportunities already, had some level of success and wore out his welcome in both places quickly. Plus he’s not exactly a young man anymore. I like the guy a lot but not as a coach…..

I think in Memphis he won that way because that fit the roster he had. Just MO. And Brooklyn was kind of a mess when he got there ... but he was coming off a great year with the Griz when the Nets hired him.

    Exactly.
I understand if their hesitation is the personal stuff, completely different topic.
But the idea they think he is a scrub of a coach is completely unfounded.

His original gigs he did better than Stotts and showed noticeable improvement on those teams.

Then he got canned, joined another staff, and has an opportunity to show that he has improved and learned even more.

Similar to Stotts (who was below .500 in his original stint and never showed the insane growth Kidd did), but his baseline was already higher than Stotts given what he showed previously.

Now I’m hesitant because I’m not super big on retreads, but Kidd and/or Clifford would be great hires basketball wise in my opinion.

I would still prefer someone new but it’s undeniable that they’d be a step up from Stotts, in my opinion.

Find a coach represented by Andy Miller who is the new head of the coaching wing of klutch sports (Rich Paul). If we want to retain Nurk and lure more top players to the Blazers, let Klutch and Andy Miller have a win.

with Mike D'Antoni, you will get a good regular season, but the same iso shit in the Playoffs, and probably the same shitty defense, hard pass

Won a championship on a team with 2 of the top 5 players in the league, that was never really well prepared and had to be punched in the mouth before it out-talented every team it beat.

I'd gladly take Stotts championship experience with Dallas over Jason Kidd's with the Lakers.

If we get Mike D'Antoni I sure hope he will have a good defensive coordinator and a good big man coach.

Can't be serious about D'Antoni. His teams are a flash in the pan in the regular season but have a track record of flaming out of the playoffs every year. We've been complaining about a lack of defense over the past few years so I don't see why we would want to go FURTHER in that direction.

The candidates that are being mentioned makes me think we aren't serious about improving.

Once again, did you even read the post?

It was in response to someone’s comment about Dame wanting Kidd and not Vanterpool.

    nothing to do with Stotts.

    is it a surprise?

the person conducting the search should have been fired before Stotts was

just have to hope the tweet-iverse is only seeing a small part of the picture

Who would your top 4 candidates be?
People love to complain without a solution.

Spoelstra for one, but I'm guessing he's not an option....Becky Hammond is interesting for a variety of reasons

not Billups or Kidd because of baggage, although, I guess you could factor in some redemption for Billups

for a better list, pay me what Olshey is being paid this month, and give me a scouting and analytical staff, and I'll post one

    Not retreads. I don't want Kidd. I don't want Van Gundy. I don't want D'Antoni.

I'd like Hammond. I guess I'm fine with Billups. I want someone with a fresh approach to the game. I don't want another guy who's going to bring in a system that hasn't worked before. D'Antoni hasn't been able to make it work with Steve Nash. He hasn't been able to make it work with Harden. What makes anyone think he can make it work with Dame?
