Haven’t seen one so I’ll start it. Who would you target? I’m assuming we’ll have the tax MLE. Beyond that we’ll see vet minimums to fill out the roster. And we’re gonna see quite a few as we only have 7 players under contract, 8 if you wanna count DJJ since he’d be dumb not to opt in.
Something that might become even more of a possibility with Billups as a head coach and Brooks as an assistant is Ibaka coming here. Ibaka would be great to have as our backup center or even starter if we do decide to trade Nurk
Given our lack of space — Josh Hart is my #1 FA target. When healthy, he’s a Raja Bell/Ime Udoka type of wing.
One target could be Batum. He’s a big fan of Billups and would probably love to come back. Wanted to sign him last year and he proved he can still play. Shot 40% from outside and played good defense. Just a good unselfish role player. The objective this offseason should be to get bigger/longer. Batum would be a good first step. Also, time for more dogs. I’m tired of having a roster full of Boy Scouts. I’m not saying sign a bunch of criminals, but get some players with an edge that aren’t afraid to get dirty.
I'd be cool with Josh, but I think he has enough fans inside the Pels organization and around the league that he'll get more than even the Full MLE from somebody. Especially as a restricted guy in a free agent market that's thin at guard/wing. Edit* Saw how few teams project to have more than Full MLE level cap space (Miami & Memphis), but could see either making a run at him.
Never been a big Hartenstein guy since pre-draft, but he's definitely interesting and has produced when given the opportunity. Would be a much better flier than Harry last year.
serge ibaka has a player option on his second yr after signing an MLE last summer. seems like an obvious candidate in FA for us.
We can only offer the taxpayer MLE, which is 5 million per year. So two years to make what he would make in one. Seems like a hard sell.
What contract do you think Portland could offer him that he'd reasonably accept? Seems like a stretch to me.
