Does anyone else dislike the NHL's Stanley Cup ad campaign with that horrible "Kiss Me" song? At least they did another one using Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again"....
Also, interesting quote from NHL player Jack Hughes today... "We're playing with house money" Turns out some players DO think that way...Imagine that.
If Hughes said that he's a moron and a child who is making a pathetic effort to take pressure off his team. Boston is out along with Tampa. The path in the East is open now.
No he isn't, he just understands what was written in here. Win or lose tonight the Devs had a WAY overachieving season, and the arrow is very much pointing up for them. Doesn't mean they won't play their butts off, doesn't mean they won't be very down and disappointed if they lose tonight, just means that even if they lose this game they will look back and say we had a very good season - and they will learn a lot from this series win or lose. The Rangers season was a failure if they lose this game.
I have no idea what saying playing with house money in a game seven means. If someone on the Knicks said that for example I'd be pissed.
You don't? I mean its pretty simple....no one expected the Devils to be in the position they are in heading into this game including the player who made the statement. The way he sees it, they are content no matter what happens because a loss isn't going to change anything for them. He's trying to make statement that if others buy into they will play a more relaxed game. Not sure that's the strategy I would want my team to take either to be honest but, i get why he is saying it.
Kinda agree with Dump on this one. I don’t want my top player saying they are playing with house money playing a G7 vs their biggest rival AND they had more points than them in regular season. I actually love if Hughes thinks that because he’s admitting the Devils don’t have the experience to be favored in this game. If that’s true the Rangers are already winning.
I think him saying that is a way of relaxing himself before a do or die game, plus thinking about how he views where the team is. Nothing's guaranteed moving forward but when you exceed expectations as much as they did, rationalizing it can loosen you up in a good way in this type of game. Let's hope not too good.
It is a bit strange that he would actually say it to the press, but I'm sure a bunch of their other young guys feel that way too. Palat has already won twice so it probably wouldn't kill him if they lost. This isn't to say any of them won't be upset or are taking it casually.
I have to be honest, and it's what fans do, I think we are reading way too much into it. Whatever happens tonight will happen regardless of Hughes saying what he said to take pressure off his team. I don't think it is much more than that. And to be real, I think he is right. 3 weeks from now who says man the Devs had a terrible season or collapsed in round 1, no one. They will look back and say great season by the Devs, bright future. So he is also saying what is real, like it or not.
I've seen a lot of people picking the Rangers. Big edge in goal, big edge in experience, been through game 7's before - and have been successful, MO from game 6. It worries me when most people pick the Rangers - I'll leave it at that.
I was going to say bottom six and third pair defenseman goals will be key to tonight‘s game, but that happened last game. Our big players need to step up tonight. no doubt about it. The top six needs to play their best game of the season.
