7,6,1,4,7,7,6,7,5,7 It sure seems like getting the 5th spot almost guarantees you're gonna get boned.
I think if we move up to 2 or 3 then it will substantially increase the trade value of our pick. I think 4-7 is pretty close in terms of trade value probably depending on the team and those picks likely wouldn't be moved until we were on the clock but who knows. I think the only pick where we will know the most likely thing to happen is if we land at 1.
"Getting boned" only happens when you draft a dud. With the 1st pick in 2007, the Blazers got boned royally when they drafted Greg Oden. With the 6th/7th pick in 2006, Brandon Roy was drafted. With the 6th pick in 2012, Damian Lillard was drafted. With the 7th pick in 2022, Shaedon Sharpe was drafted.
Anyone here knowledgeable enough to know how much having Wemby increases the value of the blazers? Say, as of now, team is valued $2.1 Billion usd. What happens when we get #1 and draft Wemby? How much does he influence team valuation?
A buddy of mine did it and got: #1 - 4x #2 - 2x #6 - 1x #7 - 3x I would pay good $$$ for him to handle Portland's Lottery balls.
I'm excited about how much better the team will be in a few years when they decide to keep the pick, choose wisely and have multiple good to great young talents! After hitting on #7, imagine what the new management could do with #2 or 3?!!! Incredible to think about their upside instead of pissing away assets on has beens. STOMP
this. don’t trade the pick—just nail the pick. yes, the draft is a crapshoot. but the road to championships is ALWAYS lined with a series of solid first round draft picks—higher the better.
Portland just hasn't had a lot of top 5 lottery picks historically. https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/teams/Portland-Trail-Blazers/24/Draft-History We've had less than 1/3 as many top 5 picks as the Clippers. A lot of that is a result of that multi-decade long playoff run. But you look over that list, and when you take into account we've never been a free agent destination, I guess it's not a big surprise we only have one championship. Personally, I'll feel a bit of dread and deja vu if we get the #1 pick. I was so excited for Oden, and the whole ordeal was scarring. It'd break me if something happened like that for us with Wembenyama. I mean, we have to take him. But for the first 5 seasons I'd just be waiting for the hammer to fall.
