The game will be presented in computer-generated graphics which show the stadium, players and fans. The real game will be shown on the floating Jumbotron as seen here.

The computer-generated players will copy the actions/movements of the real players in the live game.

What's the point of watching a representation of the game when you can watch the real game?

The virtual game allows you to watch the game angles that you choose, some of them previously impossible. That's very cool (to me).

Also, you can interact with other fans in some capacity.

There will be (virtual) scavenger hunts in the stadium.

"Syncing with Gameday 3D for this first test, fans from anywhere in the world logged into the virtual ballpark can watch a three-dimensional representation of the game and interact with each other as it’s being played. In addition to watching the game up close from previously impossible angles, fans can talk with each other using spatial audio, explore the virtual ballpark to play trivia games and participate in a scavenger hunt. Fans can also watch the traditional broadcast on the digital videoboards of the virtual ballpark. This experience is available on any internet-connected personal device including computers, tablets and smartphones."

"Gameday 3D transports fans into a fully immersive three-dimensional baseball environment, offering a unique opportunity to experience the action live, from any angle in the ballpark. MLB launched Gameday 3D earlier this season to provide fans with an alternate viewing experience of select games online. The first-of-its-kind immersive animation leverages the industry’s most advanced tracking data and the latest computer vision technology. By utilizing the same Sony Hawk-Eye cameras in each Major League ballpark that provide Statcast data, Gameday 3D incorporates the position and orientation of each player and then generates a 3D re-creation of the game in real-time. Fans will be able to access the virtual ballpark directly on MLB.com/virtual-ballpark from their device of choice."

Might be interesting, but why the hell at the Trop? That stadium is about to be imploded.

The stadium might be a dump, but the organization is said to be an early-adopter of technology.

They do need to get a new field though. I wish they had a fan base, they have an awesome team most every year.

The location of the baseball stadium is really bad. I don't think they'll ever draw a lot of spectators.
It's in the south end of the peninsula where St Petersburg is. Getting there from Tampa means driving across long bridges.

The football stadium is right next to the international (Tampa) airport, and the hockey arena is on the waterfront in Tampa.

    FOX 13 News

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After continued discussions over the future of the franchise, the Tampa Bay Rays are expected to announce a deal for a new stadium in St. Pete that will open in 2028.

Sources confirm to FOX 13 that the Rays will be playing in a new, $1.2 billion stadium starting in 2028. According to sources, at least half of the new stadium will be funded by the Rays and a collection of investors.

The team is expected to officially announce Tuesday morning their deal to build the new stadium on the Tropicana Field site, with the team's lease on the field set to expire in 2027.

I downloaded the MLB app for my Apple devices but it looks like the virtual game will not use the app, but a browser instead, which is why they recommend a computer/laptop.

Can you fight with, and potentially kill, the other fans?
If it hasn't got that, it's not compelling.

I need to upgrade my baseball CPU.
Jason Giambi is the best player in my PS2 game, and you got to go into Free Agents and sign the nearly retired Ken Griffey Jr. to a vet minimum.
