We should definitely trade Ant if we can get fair value at another position. But yeah, I didn't expect much from Scoot. He'll be good. He's just young.
The bench role has been good for Scoot. He was getting abused and destroyed as a starter which is not just bad for the team but bad for Scoots development. A bench role is perfect, he can play more or less depending on his effectiveness. I expect the same next season. He'll either greatly improve in the years ahead or not. I don't see Gleague or starting helping him with that. If the Blazers were trying to win now Scoot as a ineffective backup could be a concern. For this and next season it's irrelevant.
My issue is that he has already shown that he can play well in the G League. I don't see any real benefit from having him go back down. Unless his confidence is shot, which I don't think it is. He needs the reps at the top level and that's the only way he's either going to improve or not.
You left out the "IF HE WAS 29" part. Shooting 37% FG and 29% 3..... single digit PER and negative on BPM/winshare/etc.... thats just not an NBA roster level player. Scoot was a 19 year old rookie so of course should be on a roster now. He needs to improve a lot to become just an average NBA player - let alone the hope of the #3 elite pick he was projected as. Not sure how any rational Blazer fan can happily say his performance so far has happily meet their predraft expectations of this guy.
I was hoping for a 13pts/4-5 assists for his first season. I thought the shooting would be a bit better and this disappoint me a little. Higher expectations for a 19 yo rookie point guard were delusional
“Happily meet” or “realistically meet”? Not sure who thought he’d come into the league and be “elite” from the get go. Keep being upset about him if it helps you get thru these games. I’m looking for glimpses of what he COULD be.
You just be a numbers guy then. I grew up playing with some dudes that went into the league…. It’s all about the eye test not PER.
At this point i'm not even recording the games to watch after I get home from soccer training. What I had witnessed previously was that Scoot/Ant are a dreadful backcourt pairing. When Ant has the ball in his hands he effectively makes Scoot a jump shooter. Players get better in the off season. Lets see what he does.
The rhetoric after the all star break was that ant was going to move into an offball role, however I’ve seen a bit less of that than I expected (ant's usage over the last 9 games is 28.4%). the fact that scoot is still racking up 6 turnovers without being the sole ballhandler is troubling.
A mod should really merge these two threads about Scoot. Or is there too many people with certain people on ignore?
A lot of those turnovers are fairly egregious too. 'Simple' passes out on the wing. He's forcing a lot of passes that are not there. And a lot of his passes are off the mark (ie - not hitting his teammate's hands in the pocket)
Do you think @THE HCP has me blocked? I honestly thought I was the only one he "kind of" liked around here?
him and murray seem to have a case of the yips in a handful of different ways. to me, scoot looks like he's also still bothered by an injury of sorts. it's not the 'all-turbo' issue of the beginning of the season anymore. he literally looks like he has less pop on his drives, finishes and extension on his jumpers. hopefully an offseason of rest, practice and focus will sort things out.
He’s had legitimately good games this season and he nearly won player of the week. They’re few and far between because he’s young. We’ve seen a 22/7/11 game from him. In a few years, he’ll average that.
