Cole will undergo an MRI on his elbow in what can be an ominous sign.

So, the initial word is he will be out 1-2 months with no tear detected in the UCL. He still will be visiting with a surgeon so we shall see what happens.

Not sure why they are seeking "another opinion"...are they hoping for a better prognosis/diagnosis or are they just pretending to be doing their "due diligence? Either way this does not bode well for this year's chances...and could very well mean that Soto's 1 year salary and acquisition could be a total waste of money.

Yankees ace Gerrit Cole out until at least May, will undergo more elbow exams

Cole seek definitive word on his throwing elbow's health, the expected outcome just gets worse for the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner.

Cole will travel to Los Angeles for another opinion on MRI and other test results, and will not pitch for the Yankees until at least May, according to a person with direct knowledge of Cole's prognosis. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because the Yankees have not officially announced Cole's prognosis.

Noted orthopedist Neal ElAttrache will examine Cole, 33, in person after Yankees medical personnel analyzed the exam results. The Yankees sent Cole for testing after he complained his arm was not bouncing back from spring-training throwing sessions in its regular manner.

With Cy Cole out into May, the Yankees might find themselves >10+ games behind the AL East top team whoever that might be?

    PS- Stroman blows!

The Yanx training/medical staff has to be as incompetent as any, in any sport!!

I can't ever recall any one team having as many medical problems as they have over the last 10 years or more.

Call it the curse of Jacoby Dinglefkngberry...!

The thing that seems a bit odd about Cole's elbow "needing rest" is that he essentially "rested" all Winter. But then comes to ST and only throws a handful of pitches but his elbow "needs rest"?
