I see a lot of people saying get gambling out of the NBA broadcasts and I agree; with that being said, what JP did was idiotic.

If not for this he could've made eight figures in the NBA as a role player. Historic fumble.

I just watched something about Steven Smith the other day. NCAA player of the year arrested for points shaving after he finally made it to the NBA.

Stupid move but the NBA and other sports leagues made this bed. I don't expect this will end here. There will be many more examples in the future...that is a sure BET!

So players can’t bet on games, which doesn’t affect the outcome, but NBA teams like Portland can lose games intentionally all they want? The NBA is a joke.

DENVER — Inside a standing-room-only courtroom Friday morning a Denver District Court Judge sentenced a former DU basketball player to six years in the Colorado Department of Corrections for killing a woman while driving drunk - while also urging him to "make good."

"My daughter's life was taken by a man who should have listened to what his parents probably told him long ago - not to drink and drive," said Connie Johnson the mother of Katharina Rothman who was killed in the January 2023 crash. "His choice caused my grandson to lose a mother."

Coban Porter, the younger brother of Denver Nuggets player Michael Porter Jr., admitted in court that he was drunk when he ran a red light on Jan. 22, 2023, at the intersection of South University Boulevard and East Buchtel Boulevard and struck Rothman's vehicle - killing her.

Gambling is a big part of the NBA marketing strategy.

    lol, awesome fake outrage

players can't bet on games in their sport in the NBA, NFL, NHL & MLB. This is made very clear to each and every one of them. Porter wasn't just betting on the sport he played in, he was betting on himself to under perform. If he sat out the game with the tummy ache he sited after only 3 minutes of play, the player bet automatically wouldn't have counted. The 80G was the largest player bet placed all season on any player's stats, what a utter moron he was thinking this wouldn't be flagged.

Sterling absolutely did the right thing banning him which hopefully serves as a deterrent but then again it's pretty hard to account for this level of stupid

I have no problem with fining or suspending players who bet on games. That, however, is low-hanging fruit. It’s easy to catch and it makes the NBA look virtuous. Where the NBA is failing to “protect the integrity of the game” is by its continued inaction on teams that lose intentionally in order to improve their draft position. This is a much deeper and more damaging corruption than the occasional player betting on a game, and the NBA does nothing about it.

If you want to end tanking, it's really simple to do so. Just get rid of the draft. Assign rookies to teams randomly.

Basketball is a 5man sport, with 30 teams, where the majority of teams won't contend each year.

There just isn't a way to have all 30 teams be relevant, some of them have to suck every year.

What do the worst 10 teams do if not tank and build for the future?
