Is this the same gentleman door to door salesmen in Portland that has another great story about him? I believe he is, but not 100% sure. Here is the story. He had a lady customer that bought from him for many many years, every time he came to the door. And then one day he went to the house and a different person answered. I believe it was a relative of the lady that lived there. Anyway the new lady informed him that his lady customer had passed away. When the relative realized who he was, she asked him to come into the house and see something. A spare bedroom was full of bags of his products, hundreds and hundreds of bags full of his products that where never used. To make a long story short, it turns out the lady customer was in love with this salesman, and he never knew it until she passed away and the relative told him. Such a beautiful sad story. Wish they had got together and shared their lives.
Just have fun with it, fuck with them, haggle their prices, call whatever they are selling junk, say you have a better one you never use, change the subject, ask if they have one with flames painted on it, and then accidentally shut your fingers in the door and act like you broke them.
That's great. My nice way of telling them no is my no soliciting sign. I don't like being bothered while at home for various reasons. Most times i have answered the door they have been aggressive salespeople. I fucking hate that. My job is very confrontational. So i have no problem telling them to go fuck themselves and get off my property. I'd just rather not.
OK, but have you considered that letting the salesman in on the action could speed the plan along? barfo
A moderator for a sports forum, an organizer for a can food drive. a musician and a door to door salesman. Where do you find the time for all that @SlyPokerDog?
They made a movie of this guy in 2002, on TNT. They addressed that part of the story, but it was implied she was an alcoholic. I'm not sure how true that part of the story is though.
Just had someone come to my door ignoring my no soliciting sign. Nowadays the knock and doorbell makes my dogs go nuts. In this case we just got our youngest to bed......he obviously woke up from the commotion. Went out, told him to pay attention to the sign, thanks for waking up my kid and get off my property.
I don't feel like reading the old thread, but what is the extent of your sign? I got one that has a list of things that are considered soliciting and says stuff like "no menus, no bake sales, no tree trimmers" etc. It's worked
It just says no soliciting. I moved. I don't think anything stops them. Constant pest control and solar panel salespeople. This person wouldn't care what sign. They knocked on my neighbors too who has a no soliciting. Only kids unless we know you sign. They went there too.
He probably was like 19. I think telling him thanks for waking up my kid angrily spooked him. I don't think Gen Z is as angry as us millennials can be.
https://tinyurl.com/NoSolicitingSigns That's the one I bought. Ever since I put one up (actually, put up 2. One at the garage door, one at my front door) I've gotten zero solicitations. I had to use tinyurl because Amazon kept linking as media and showed nothing.
I've had people ignore my No Soliciting sign only to say "I'm not selling anything" to which I reply - My sign doesn't say No Selling - it say's No Soliciting - please get a dictionary and look up the word Solicit!
