The new Swanigan? (Also: we picked CJ after his team upset Duke, so...) I also like: Adem Bona, Coleman Hawkins, Enrique Freeman
my 2c: pick someone at 34 and give them a 2-way deal, trade 40 into the future for when we need young players and/or trade assets.
enrique seems like this year's toumani camara: played well at portsmouth invitational, which got him a g-league elite camp invite. played well there, which got him an nba combine invite. played well there. then camara got drafted. got traded, then he started 49 games. what a story!
Trade all 2nd rounders for a better future pick if possible. If not then trade them for a decent backup Center.
Fun factoid. This franchise has only had drafted ONE player in the 2nd round, in the past 20 years, that has ended up not playing regular season game for them (aside from those traded on draft night). Jon Diebler in 2011. This team loves its 2nd rounders.
I really like this guy. I think he has a legit chance to stick in the league a long time. He'd be an excellent backup PG (think TJ McConnell).
I have a feeling Ryan Dunn could be a second rounder that will be available at #40. I was anti-Dunn for most of the season seeing him so high. Now that things have settled on him, I’d love to have him spend a year in the GL and see how his 3 improves. Almost 6’8 in shoes and a 7’1.5 wingspan. Dunn with even Thybulle’s current stroke and more disciplined defense would be crazy valuable.
I like playmaker, Euro PGs in the 2nd round (or at least at 20+) so Nunez looks like a good one in the 30s. Alex Karaban seems like a Heat player. Dunn probably goes 1st round otherwise get him. And then a couple role player shooters in shorter, but thick P.J. Hall (PF/C) and the wing, Scheierman.
I would be surprised if we used both our 2nd's. I like Bona, AJ Johnson, Djurisic, Karaban, Dadiet, Klintman, Scheierman, Clifford. Some combo of these would work for me. Half of these guys probably rise into the first round by the time workouts are over.
I remember him! He was drafted PURELY for three point shooting. He couldn't do ANYTHING else. He played in Spain, as I recall. Another blown pick (that was obvious at the time) was that Spanish guy with tiny arms who looked good in some U-19 competition but was clearly unsuited to the NBA. I refuse even to remember his name - I'm pretty sure he was drafted never intending to bring him over.
2nd rounders are hard to predict because it is all dependent on how the board shakes out up to that point. I thought Rupert could’ve gone as high as the early 20’s, and we clearly benefited from teams thinking he’s too un-athletic or he would never develop his shot. I don’t think Schmitz will prioritize position. He will pick BPA, it might end up being someone who we thought would go in the 20’s like Rupert was.
Anyone got an opinion on Dillon Jones? We've had good luck with Weber State players... A mentally-well Royce White? https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nb...-a-legitimate-2024-draft-prospect/ar-BB1mFGwM https://www.si.com/nba/trailblazers...ky-all-pac-12-first-teamers-mock-draft-ak1987
