Taxing them will just make them need more subsidies. If they have less it just hurts us all and our futures more. You want more homeless and crime? Raise taxes on the poor and you'll certainly get that. I do not want that, so I do not support taking what little the poor do have. We need to do more to help our poor, not less.
Dude. My ex-inlaws are almost all completely government dependent. They eat better than me, drive nicer vehicles than i do, all have the newest iphones always and plenty of free time to drive around, burn gas and ask me for money. The shit is crazy.
Clearly they need to start a youtube channel to teach all the other impoverished people who aren't living high on the hog on government handouts how to maximize their benefits the way your ex-inlaws do.
Through out history, the vast majority of wealth has been contolled by very few people, regardless of economic system, or type of govt. However, there is one system that has done a better job of distributing wealth, and uplifting the poor, than any other. Capitalism. Not saying capitalism is perfect. Today, I am very concerned about the control private equity funds have over our lives. But overall, it is still the best system ever. And gives everyone a opportunity to improve their lives. Example. Go back to the 1980s. Iran had a form of capitalism, and China was under socialist control. Irans economy was larger than Chinas. The average Iranian had a higher standard of living than those in China. Not at the exact same time, but Irans economy changed to be much more nationalized. And China opened up their economy to a form of capitalism. The result is, in 25-30 years, Chinas economy went from being a third world country, to the second largest in the world. 45 times larger than Irans. The average person in China now has a higher standard of living than the people in Iran.
