Damn that was a long time ago.

RIP Bill, Luke, Jack, Herm, and Robin. Not Lloyd.

I always thought that "Corky Calhoun" was such a funny name.

You are correct, he is. I could have sworn I heard he passed away.

It is virtually impossible to argue with Mr. Simmons. I too have read that book (by one of the best writers in history) many, many times. It was a brief moment in time where, if you blinked, you probably missed it. The NBA has not seen basketball played that close to perfection since.......

But of course I'm a major Homer (and a dreaded Boomer) so take it with a pinch of salt.

There needs to be a statue for Rich Patterson too, if it wasn't for him recording the audio from Schonz' broadcast, there would be nothing other than Brent Musburgers call.

"The Portland Trailblazers are NBA Champions. We switch now to the Kemper Open"

IIRC, CBS stayed with the post game for less than a minute

I was in the building - age 15. The summer that followed, everyone wanted to purchase season tickets. So the Blazers held a lottery, with the draw taking place at the Coliseum and hosted by Bill Schonley. 750 names were drawn each with the rights to purchase 2 season tickets. My Dad, brother, two friends and I went to the coliseum for the event as my Dad and Mom had entered the lottery. After sitting through 90 minutes and hopes dimming, at #681, my Dad’s name was announced by Schonz! What a day. The cool part came a week later when the Blazers called my Dad to inform them of their seat location. It was way up in the nosebleed section and seats 2 and 3 in the row. My Dad asked “what about seat 1?” And the Blazers ended up offering seats 1, 2 and 3! This meant that my brother and I were able to take turns going to the games! And there is more to this story!

As preseason was underway, my little brother had gone to a game with my parents. My Dad gave him a couple dollars and let him go down near the court and go buy himself a hot dog. At halftime he wanted to go back to the court because he “had made a friend.” His new friend was a five year old Schmohn Dunn. His Mon, Cynthia saw my brother playing at halftime with Schmohn and asked my brother where his seat was. She went on to ask if after the game he would come down with my parents to meet. They were skeptical of my brother’s story however they went down to the court and met Schmohn and his Mom Cynthia. Cynthia learned that we had three season tickets and that me and my brother took turns to go to the game. She then asked my parents if my brother could be her guest and attend every game and babysit Schmohn, giving her a chance to hang out with the other wives. It was quite the luck and enabled me to then go to every game! This relationship went on for two seasons and we got a chance to meet all of the Blazers (and all of their wives) - TR, Corky Calhoun, Walton, Lucas, Neale, Ramsay, and many more. After every game we went down to the players lounge to pick up my little brother and I got to see all of the players. My parents even babysat Schmohn at our home in Vancouver, WA which enabled Cynthia to go on a few road trips with the team and their wives. My Dad, a long time designer and builder of custom homes wound up designing homes for the Dunn’s. Then for Corky Calhoun, Calvin Natt, each of them visiting our home in Vancouver to meet with my Dad as he designed their homes! It was so cool. Amongst my buddies I definitely owned bragging rights.

Saw this for the first time I do not remember this being televised at halftime of the final. $15k for the slam dunk champion!
