With the draft still a couple of weeks out i'm assuming most of the intel out there is Houston and Atlanta trying to create as much of a market as possible for their picks. Clingan seems like a hype-able type of prospect who could attract the most interest across a variety of teams.
Sengun Yeah, I actually don't envy Houston's dilemma at all. I understand that they may like Sengun, but who in the world do you pair him with in the front court? I understand that they may want some additional rim protection (in the form of Clingan), but does that mean you are asking Sengun to play the 4 and stay with guys on the perimeter? If making the Minnesota comparison, Sengun is a far cry from both Naz Reid and KAT (quicker AND longer). Not to mention the spacing on offense would be a mess. Clingan only makes sense if you are moving on from Sengun... which frankly, they perhaps should consider despite his highly productive season.
when it comes to trading the current, veteran Trail Blazers, “winning the trade” is less of an issue than getting what we want. IMHO … 1. Timeline with youth and players that fit and fit it. 2. Restructuring team salary by bringing back short term contracts. 3. Getting high draft picks — even in this draft. Houston no longer needs either Steven Adams (SAEC) or Jeff Green (guarantee the T-opt and trade). $20.6 million combined … for Simons … add the team-option guaranteed final year of Jae’Sean Tate and it’s over $28 million … Grant. Keep Adams for a year. Waive the other 2.

What are they reading the pick for, a worse pick? Because any veteran is going to have the same salary matching issue as PDX.
I'm not necessarily ready to pull the trigger on Clingan either (even at #7), but those are kind of strange comps for him. Regardless of outcome, he is a completely different type of player.
Here is the thing being a weak / average draft throwing a player like Brog , Williams and maybe Thybulle might be an option IF the receiving teams thinks that that vet PLUS the 7 would make them better. Also the Blazers need to shed some payroll so that type of trade works for them so we should hope someone like Houston etc loves one of these players.
Bagley and Wiseman were the opposite of Clingan. Clingan is a BORING pick who will make obvious contributions but never be a star. Bagley and Wiseman were players who were big swings where people said "well, they didn't do much in college but LOOK at the UPSIDE"
Bill Simmons and Ryen Russillo think Clingan can totally go #1. Everyone can't be crazy I guess. I'm all for acquiring him or #3. Someone interesting will be there. Sarr, Risacher or Clingan. I'd be excited to add any of them.
