I kinda dig this bit here: You always hear about offenses being built around a particular player's talents/style, but you rarely hear something similar about defenses (absent the occasional Rudy-Gobert-level defensive center). Kinda sounds like that's what they're doing here, at least when Thybulle is on the floor.
It's interesting just how predictable we are when it matters. That has to be on Chauncey, doesn't it?
I thought that had to do with the fact that three out of the five best players on this team were out tonight with injuries. Very limited options. Now Ant shouldn't have been options one through five down the stretch but this team (Joe, Chauncey and every player) have been talking about Ant like he's the second coming of Dame. It's not true and it hurts what the team is saying they want to do when they go so iso heavy with Ant and Jerami when he's healthy.
No. All teams are predictable when it matters. Some teams have multiple all-stars/HOF's that can make plays and we have none of those.
In the time I spent time logging games across the NBA, it's true. We were able to identify clear patterns for every team. I can't imagine it's magically changed all of a sudden. If you watch one team for 82 teams and other teams for 4-10 games a year, it becomes hard to compare predictability levels.
Man,Willams and pop have lost a combined 37 games in a row! Makes Chauncey look good for at least having a scrappy team that can win here and there. Pop way overrated, he's got enough good talent to where he should win a few games. If Chauncey lost 17 or 20 in a row ?
The ones that aren't predictable either have a genius creator (Steve Nash, LBJ, Doncic, Jokic) or run a motion offense (the Warriors) where there are multiple options that react differently to different situations. The latter requires seasoned vets.
At the moment the team is competing hard, the young players are progressing and we don't need to win. Chauncey's safe for now. But he has a record of his teams cratering in the second half of the season. He's had a pass the first two years because we've been blatantly tanking. Be interesting to see if that doesn't happen this year.
Blazer fans would get blamed more often for expecting their team to win. When in doubt, take it out on the complainers.
"How is Chauncey Billups still employed after this game?" Can CHAUNCEY BILLUPS please by fired after the BLAZERS lose by 60
"The Blazers clearly have no idea what they're doing." CHAUNCEY BILLUPS should not have a job vs. TIMBERWOLVES | February 15, 2024
