What do players call him other than "Coach"?

And he can help us beat really bad teams that we wouldn't beat without him. But he's not good enough to beat really good teams, and will not be very helpful in 5 to 6 years when the rest of the team is good enough to beat really good teams.

    That's a problem.

I usually like Mike's takes... But he's wrong on this one. Grant is in the way.

The games right now don't matter. As a fan of the team I will enjoy it if our guys do well.

I will enjoy it in spite of the fact that doing well with middle-aged players in games that we would lose otherwise hurts our future.

I hereby propose The Fuck No/Yeah System. I claim no patent; Sports 2 can have it. See this opening Blazer page?

    http://www.sportstwo.com/forums/portland-trail-blazers.123/

Moderators will artistically divide it into 4 permanent quarters. It will have a vertical line down the middle, and a horizontal line through the middle. It will look like a big plus sign, a Cartesian coordinate system with 4 quadrants.

When someone starts a thread, he chooses which quadrant to place his thread. Here are the quadrant titles:

top left: "Fuck no! We lost!"
top right: "Fuck yeah! We won!"
bottom left: "Fuck yeah! We lost!"
bottom right: "Fuck no! We won!"

Since we're losing more than winning, you the humble reader will usually just look at the left (losing) half to read new threads. When we win, scroll right to the 2 quadrants on the right.

But during the season, if we went above .500, moderators would reverse the left and right. That way, winning would be the default, minimizing all that scrolling work, with which the poor younger generation is so often saddled while we old-timers have an easy life twisting knobs.

Late in the season, when those who want to win have flipped to join their opponent posters, the board would be reversed to put the celebration of losing on top.

"Sure," you say, "this would be a vast improvement, I already thought of it, but I have one objection. What if late in a season, and this won't happen for many years, like 2040 A.D., but what if the Blazers start winning late in a season? After the board's been reversed after the All-Star break, anticipating tanking, the Blazers might fail at tanking and win a championship. How should the moderators speedily reconfigure the board then, the ones who haven't quit?"

I have no answer, so I am asking you the public for your ideas. Then we can launch this in time to make sense of the Sports 2 board.

I'm excited by the prospect of a Cartesian Quadrant of 'fuck you/fuck off/go fuck yourself/no fucking way'. There will probably be plenty of petty arguments about if 'fuck-you' and 'go-fuck-yourself' are the same thing. There may be so many permutations of fuck you/fuck off that it won't be a plus sign quadrant. At minimum it would be a tick-tack-toe grid

Every night I pray for guidance to the Spirit of Stern. Since he won't talk, Commissioner Adam Silver should decide among those titles. Need some authority around here.

Our 16th standard contract Devonte' Graham may surprise and take Banton's job. He's just as good as Banton, and doesn't overdominate with Banton's high usage. But at 6-1, Graham is 8-9 inches shorter, so gets fewer points close to the basket.

Something to get you interested in the pre-season.

Lowe: I think there’s there’s real representative NBA talent almost up and down the full [roster], like once you get down to 12 or 13 guys on this team.

Jones: Yeah, I that that was one of the things that really spoke to me. I I think they have a lot of talent.

Lowe: . ... I think this team is self-aware that they need another crack at the top of the draft and another chance to get lucky in the lottery. But there’s some real talent here. I’m legit, this is not fake. I’m legitimately excited to watch Blazers games this year because I want to see how all these mysteries get unraveled.

“Should we start printing the Jerami Grant-Lakers jerseys, by the way?” -- “Should we just do it now? I think… I might order one."

    Zach Lowe, July 27th, 2024

while his Blazers enthusiasm is making the rounds, i don't trust Lakers fans.

I refer to various sports figures all the time by their initials when posting. I'm not thinking I'm giving them a nickname or anything like that, it's just an easy way of mixing things up instead of always calling them by their first, last or nickname. However, when referring to a coach it's common in this practice to add a C prior to the initials as in CCB. I agree that as a stand alone using just initials who the poster is referring to is a bit confusing.

Scoot at the 1 and Sharpe at the 2.

If they can't do that we just need to blow it up and start tanking hard all over again.

Sure. Might as well add some more #7 and #3 picks. We can be losers for another 4-5 years. Nobody will have a problem with that.

It won't matter who has a problem with that. Because if we did such a bad job drafting that are lotto picks aren't good enough to even start by their third year then those people aren't going to be around by the time we're good.

This is why it's important to embrace the suck and go ahead and tank. Get your guys on the court as soon as possible as starters against the best competition as possible and let them grow fast.

This half-in half-out bullshit is going to cost us an opportunity it actually becoming a very good team.

That's why The warriors had such a long playoff drought .That's why we had such a long playoff drought. And then such a long drought of first round and outs.
