I hope you're right. At the same time, I've learned when people say they are going to do/be the worst thing possible, take them at their word. If they might just try to do something crazy and even partially succeed by accident, it's really bad for a lot of people. Better to be prepared and mitigate, just to be on the safe side.

Only 2 weeks ago, Gaetz was reelected with 66% of the votes. The accusations were old even then. So there's a very good chance that he'll win the special election.

There's no special election. His term ends in about 6 weeks. The rest of that term the seat will be vacant.

He doesn't need to run again to go back to the house, he was, as you say, elected 2 weeks ago to a new term that starts in 6 weeks.

If he doesn't want to serve the next term, there will need to be a special election. If he wants to serve, he can just show up.

Fox suggested he be named to Senate seat that will be open if Rubio is confirmed as Secretary of State.

Huh? He quit the job. Resigned. He didn't go on vacation. Do you have a source that a congressman can resign, then claim he only took a leave of absence? Is there any precedent?

Now I'm seeing articles saying Gaetz would have to run in the special election. As I suspected, there is no precedent, giving pro-Gaetz people room to argue over the definition of "vacancy."

So far as we know, Pam Bondi is not a sexual predator.
As attorney general of Florida she was expected to join multi state suit against fraudulent Trump University on behalf of defrauded Floridians. At the last minute she withdrew so Florida victims got nothing. Trump sent her campaign a $25,000 donation illegally from his foundation.
She asked the governor to postpone a scheduled execution because it conflicted with her fund raiser.
She is an election denier and unsurprisingly opposes LGBTQ rights.

Sounds like the reports on Gaetz are starting to leak from Congress.

Gaetz will take Giulliani's place as Trump's carpet bagging propogandist lawyer gathering whack jobs all around the country and assaulting their daughters.

What are your coping strategies for the next 4 years?

My wife and I have decided we can't get caught up in the day-to-day craziness again - "He said WHAT? He did WHAT?" It was truly toxic and unhealthy and way too stressful the first time around.

Tuning out of the shit-show-to-be seems to be the only solution, to the extent possible. Less news, more junk TV. Not caring. It seems like an awful solution, but we can't come up with a better one.

Do you have a better one?

I've already started doing that. And it's been easier than I thought it would be. I'm trying to go for a 30-40 minute walk when I start getting the "news" itch. Definitely better for my health. I'm also trying hard (and struggling) not to respond to the constant idiotic nonsense posted by our resident troll (if it wasn't for his misspellings and weird, homoerotic flexes I'd think he was an actual bot). Slowly weaning myself away.

But in general I am extremely grateful to be living in a blue state. I'm not the biggest Kotek fan but I do trust her to stick her thumb in Trump's eye if and when necessary. And at my age there is only so much Trump can do to actually hurt me. Two weeks before the election I cashed out two relatively small inherited IRAs. They were making bank under Biden but I expect Trump's wild eyed incompetence will make them essentially worthless within a year or two, so I am stockpiling cash. The coming Trump hyper inflation will obviously lower the value, but it's better than to have the entire amount vanish into the ether. Other than that, I'm just trying to stay relatively positive while avoiding politics (and my Trumper acquaintances) for the most part.

Help. Help your neighbors, help your community, help your city, help your state.

There are going to be a lot of changes. Hopefully, some will be good but we know many people's lives will be drastically changed for the worst.

Helping your neighbor to apply for PGE's discount.

Helping a neighbor find their local food bank.

Volunteering at a school or library.

There are so many small things you can do that would do so much for others.

We're not going to get through what this is by hiding from it.

My wife is due with our second child in February, so luckily I'll have plenty to distract me. That's my plan at least.
