4th rounder and a prospect. No salary retention. First win for Drury.

Defenseman was a former first round pick, lefty defenseman with some size. Tells me Miller is going to get dealt. Vaakanainen played 68 games last year for the Ducks and was a +/- of 0 which is pretty impressive on that crap team.

I don't give a flying fuck if he has 1 goal. Actually play defense and not suck moose dick like the rest of the retards not named Schneider and Jones.

Drury is alive and winning. Let's see how long it lasts.

I think Miller brings back a good, near, NHL center prospect and a number 2 pick.

Now that he got rid of one, lazy motherfucker with a big salary, maybe it will convince the other dickheads that they could actually be traded soon as well.

Drury just sent the captain of the team, who had a 15 team no-trade list, an inflated $8m/ salary and has been checked out the entire season, to a last place team out west. In return he got a former first round pick and a draft pick, while retaining zero salary.

    Home run.

No one has been more critical of Drury than I have been, so I have to be fair, this was a great deal by him. It would have been a great move if they got a bag of pucks to move Trouba and his full cap hit, but to get a dman with some size, and a 4th round pick in addition to moving all $8M of Trouba's contract, is a great deal. I tip my cap to Drury for finally showing a pulse and starting to break apart the stale core, hopefully he can keep it up and this is only step one.

The season is getting away from them. Sacrifice this year if necessary for the greater good.

Vaakenainen's salary is $1.1 so that's good, Urho hasn't registered 1 hit this year but he's only played 5 games for the Ducks, hope the Garden awakens his game. Getting rid of Trouba's $8 must mean there's more to come with the salary Drury now has available.

There has to be more coming, otherwise it's a waste:

After the Trouba trade, the Rangers have $5.9M projected cap space. This can fit $8.6M annual cap hit today or $27M at the deadline assuming no roster moves

It seems all the rumors this summer of how there was no communication, and things were handled poorly were true, at least if you listen to Trouba tell it. He essentially confirmed he blocked a trade and focused on his family.

"I wasn't really thrilled with how it went down. In my opinion, things could have been handled better," he said. "It's unfortunate how it all happened. But it's a rite of passage to get fired from MSG."

While I have been tough on Drury, and deservedly so, Trouba also looks bad here. He blocks a trade due to his family, which is his right considering he negotiated a MNTC for this season, but then he lets Drury's poor handling of the situation impact his game, and he plays like he doesn't care and knows his time in NY is over, it's just a matter of when. If you're going to exercise your right to block a trade, you better man up and play at top level, especially as the captain. Instead, he barely showed up, which is not right of him despite Drury's BS.

It's finally over, which is good for all parties involved. The Rangers needed Trouba gone, and Trouba needed a fresh start. Now we await the next big move as the Rangers have a boatload of cap space, they can use this season.

Hockey athletes I consider the most underpaid of any athlete out there. If you’re going to demand money, you’re not worth from the Rangers and then you don’t earn it, you shouldn’t be whining and complaining that it wasn’t handled better. Goodrow for the most part earned his money. He had a bad injury last year that really hurt his regular season. So Drury might’ve handled that one better. However, Trouba decided he wanted to paint instead of hit people on the ice so he has nobody to blame by himself.

I totally agree. While Drury didn't handle it well, it was amateur hour from what you read, Trouba handled it poorly as well. Not only did he let it impact his play, but he also played with nothing out there, no emotion or passion, didn't hit like he normally does, he played like he didn't care. That's on Trouba for not being a professional. It seems like a bad situation all around for Drury and Trouba.

For all the faults with how Trouba handled it on the ice, this is yet another reason Drury is in over his head though. What happened yesterday needed to happen over the summer. There are only 15 teams Trouba could block a trade to. In addition, if communication was better Drury and Trouba maybe could have worked together to get something done to avoid what has happened thus far this season, because as it turns out not only is it the stale core that needed to be broken up that is an issue, keeping Trouba given all that went down over the summer was also a major issue. It was poor judgement on many levels by Drury, and it hurt the team big time so far this season.

Now we get to see if Drury can redeem himself. He's off to a good start with the Trouba no retention trade, I didn't love the $11.5M for Igor, but it's not a disaster (and it helps that all of Trouba's money is gone), and he now has a lot of cap space to get something big done, let's see what he does. The next moves will decide Drury's fate as Pres/GM IMO. If he F's it up he needs to go. If he makes smart moves he could redeem himself.
