This thread is for the purpose of cataloging the actions of our 47th president that are so outrageous that in less partisan times they might instigate impeachment proceedings. Here’s my first offering for the thread: Yesterday, despite previous statements that convicted Jan. 6th felons who had committed violent actions would not be included in proposed pardons, he went ahead and granted them to these lovely individuals: (From NYT morning newsletter) “- Stewart Rhodes and his far-right militia group, the Oath Keepers, helped orchestrate the riot. He and his followers said over text messages beforehand that Chinese agents had infiltrated the U.S. government and that Joe Biden might cede control of the country to the United Nations. Prosecutors said Rhodes had placed a “quick reaction force” of heavily armed Oath Keepers in a Virginia hotel — to rush into Washington with their weapons if called upon. A jury convicted him of seditious conspiracy, which requires proof of violent force against the government. A judge sentenced him to 18 years in prison. - Julian Khater blasted chemical spray at a group of officers as the mob overran the police on the west side of the Capitol. One of the officers, Brian Sicknick, died the next day. A judge sentenced Khater to nearly seven years in prison. - Albuquerque Cosper Head grabbed Officer Michael Fanone around the neck and told a crowd, “I got one!” Head then dragged Fanone down the Capitol steps and into the mob. Rioters beat, kicked and shot Fanone with a stun gun. A judge sentenced Head to seven and a half years in prison. - Daniel Rodriguez fired the stun gun at Fanone’s neck, twice. He also sprayed a fire extinguisher at the police and shoved a wooden pole at a line of officers. A judge called him a “one-man army of hate” and sentenced him to more than 12 years in prison. - David Dempsey punched and kicked police officers and attacked them with a flagpole, crutches, broken pieces of furniture and pepper spray. A judge sentenced him to 20 years in prison. - Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the far-right Proud Boys, helped plan the attack. (He was not actually at the riot; officers arrested him days earlier for setting fire to a church’s Black Lives Matter banner.) A jury convicted him of seditious conspiracy, and a judge sentenced him to 22 years in prison.” Trump has falsely claimed that other countries are emptying their prisons of violent prisoners and sending them to the US. Now he’s actually letting these violent knuckleheads loose into our population.
Not to be contentious, but why would the legal exercise of his presidential authority in issuing pardons theoretically warrant impeachment proceedings? Wouldn't we want to list actions that seem to run afoul of the law?
Today Trump pardoned notorious drug dealer who ran cocaine and heroin trafficking on line. He also revoked an executive order from Lyndon Johnson banning racial discrimination in federal construction projects.
Okay, why would the Republicans in the House try to impeach Biden based on vague accusations backed by NO eveidence? Askin' for a friend.....
I don't pay close enough attention to be able to answer that question. What did the Republican House unjustly accuse him of?
That's a fair take. As far as I'm aware, there aren't any constitutional limits on a president's powers to pardon people convicted of federal crimes. However, there have been rumors in the past of Trump soliciting money in return for presidential favors. Bribery is a constitutional ground for impeachment. I have no idea if there would be any legs to that notion in this instance, but I'd sure like to see it investigated.
I don't know who is worse: Trump sore losers (2020) or Democrat sore losers (2016, 2024). Seems pretty close. When your ass takes a pounding at the voting booth, I guess it makes you butthurt. (tongue in cheek)
Fair enough, let's then say anything that sits outside of the proper etiquette and decorum befitting a president and anything that would draw incredulousness prior to the age of Trump.
No one likes to lose. But, only one side attempted and were just recently pardoned for an insurrection.
You rally haven't been paying attention.......the Katzenjammer Kidz (Jordan and Comer in particular) held interminable hearings, trying to dig up dirt on Hunter Biden's dealings that made Joe a profit. They were searching high and low for a reason to impeach and they ended up looking more stupid than they already did (impossible as that is to imagine). The Republicans are the party of "I know you are but what am I?".......
Uh......Democrats weren't sore enough to spend four years blatantly lying about an election they lost. Democrats did not attempt to overthrow the legally elected president. They still might be disgruntled losers, but even worse are classless, sore winners. Welcome to your Republican Party. I really expected a far less clueless take from you Denny.
There are plenty of threads to complain about Trump. This one is for the specific purpose of keeping a list of actions that are beyond the pale when it comes to acceptable presidential activities. Judging from his meandering whine-fest of an inaugural address and follow-up "speech" at the White House, I expect there will be many.
So, you're saying that they didn't actually impeach, because they couldn't actually find any (to quote myself) "actions that seem to run afoul of the law". Seems consistent with my original post.
No doubt. But that fact is completely irrelevant to my point at the very top of this thread. Feel free to go back to my first post to see the genesis of the discussion.
