I hate comparing to guys to Draymond Green and take any chance I can get to shoot them down when they're made, but Collin Murray-Boyles has the goods to make the comp legitimate. If we end up in the 5-9 range, he's in play for me.
I watched the MSU-Rutgers game just now. Not a great outing for Harper and Bailey. I think we all realize this, but both will have a tough rookie season.
As with every draft other than the two or three worst ever, there will be good-to-great players available well after that.
The Wemby draft was supposed to be "great" but it was just him and then a big step down. This draft is shaping up to be not the great draft it was supposed to be, too. Maybe the great draft is the next one, with the Boozers.
If we start really tanking and only win another three to five games I think we will likely have a worse record than the Nets, Sixers, and Pels (I know they have a bad record but that is a talented squad and we'll have to see how dedicated they can be to the tank). We know that our team can tank, we've done it pretty effectively in the second half of the last three seasons. So yeah 5th seams like our highest position... unless the Hornets fuck around and win some games they think they can afford to play their good players and still lose but don't. Then we're 4th. I would say our range is 4th to 8th. This four game win streak with the kind of talent at the top of this draft was a real kick in the balls.
The skills, athleticism and size of the top three prospects in this draft (Flagg, Harper, Bailey) make them can't miss picks. The rest is a step down but there's a ton of talent. I don't know where you're seeing that it's not as good of a draft class as originally thought.
Probably time to focus on what’s left after 6 or 7. Maybe they will get really really really really lucky with the 8th pick?
Which of Scoot, Sharpe, Toumani, Deni and Clingan are y'all so excited to replace with a draft pick? I cannot be more excited to watch these guys develop. Trading Grant and Simons for some bench prospects would be great. Is it just the hope of something new being magic elixir?
None of them have proven to be good enough to pass on the best player available if we're in the top 10. Certainly not if we could figure out how to be in the top five.
Doesn't change the fact that we should be looking picking in the top five. And we would be if our GM was doing his job right, IMO.
watched the Minnesota Oregon game. The best player on the court was senior Dawson Garcia. Has scored 20+ in five straight games. Gonna be a second rounder. I’ve watched almost all their games….I can’t agree. I’m thinking they both succeed. Harper runs an offense like Cade Cunningham out there. Very impressed with his court vision. I guess it depends on what we think “tough rookie season means”?
Just normal rookie growing pains....much like they did yesterday against college players. Sure they will be better by next year, but so will their competition. Much like how Cunningham struggled at times during his first two years. If the two of them can't elevate their college team how are going to elevate an NBA team as rookies? Not saying they won't be successful, next year, just that they will have a tougher time than Flagg.
I agree with Pinwheel. It was my first time watching them, and I was less impressed than I expected to be. I definitely see the Cunningham comps for Harper, but it was tough to tell much with him being physically limited. Bailey clearly has shot-making potential, but pretty much got manhandled by an older, stronger opponent...which will be the case his first couple years in the league. I also thought his so-called excellent length was actually pretty poor. There are guards with better wingspans than him. That doesn't spell franchise player to me.
I'm an Ace Bailey fan. I think a dude that has a shot like that, size and length like that and his kind of motor is as close to you get to a sure fire all star. This guy works hard, has a great handle for a guy that's 6'10", he works for boards, he reads passing lanes. I'm just a big fan of all the things this guy can do... I don't think I'd take him over Flagg but it's not a simple decision for me because Flaggs shooting just isn't close to what Bailey's is and I realize Bailey's post defense isn't where Flaggs is and both have really great perimeter D. It really bugs me that we aren't already tanking harder when we can see what the potential reward would be. Worried about the trade deadline and what we might not do. Still excited for the lotto and the draft because while that top tier of talent is spectacular the next couple of tiers are really impressive too.
