Not a swing trade but I was wondering if the Pelicans are interested in not tanking next yr. I would do a swap of Grant for McCollum. CJ is expiring and we can choose to buy him out or bring him off the bench for a yr as a vet. But the main goal of this trade would be to shed Grant's contract. Gives them a lineup of Murray/Murphy/Jones/Grant/Zion. Ton of switchability and versatility. Opens up a ton of space for us next summer...
Don’t see any point for Pels. I think there’s a single dumb team out there that still sees value in Jerami, but I don’t think it’s them.
Yeah cj isn’t even a factor to me, I’m just trying to consider a single reason why the pels or really any team take on Grant without compensation. I used to think he had at least neutral value, this season showed me even when forced to be a team player he still resorts to being a black hole. Every damn time, just give him time to get bored playing defense and making small plays. Anyway
A two parter — thinking outside the box: -Move Deni into the Doncic role at PG -Take the risk of rejuvenating Zion PG: Deni SG: Shaedon SF: Toumani PF: Zion C: Clingan Trade a MIL pick to land Nique Clifford
Hmm...I suggested a deal netting Morant/Zion. @RR7 suggested a similar one netting Sabonis. Maybe combine the two?
I would love to get Zion, I just think the asking price will be too steep unless the Blazers want to trade one of our young core players. Same might be said for Sabonis. Julius Randal might be more realistic if the Wolves go out in the first or second round.
Joe would have to give up DC and/or TC and/or Deni to get a star. Maybe SS would be in the mix too. Two of those guys for sure.
Some sleuthing. - Pelicans just hired Troy Weaver to their front office as GM. He is a massive fan of Jerami Grant. Their paths crossed in OKC and Detroit. - Randomly scrolling thru Instagram reels, I came across a video from the Pistons official account after their Game 2 win in NY. Ant Simons liked it. Hmm.
To POR: - Tobias Harris - CJ - 28 lotto protected first To DET: - Simons To NOP: - Grant - 2 seconds (1 from POR, 1 from DET) Think the math works.
Yes, in this scenario, I would start Deni at the point. In other scenarios, if they somehow add a good forward to this team, or even if they stand pat with Grant, then Deni is at the very least their backup PG. It is the only way that all three (Deni, Toumani, and whoever) would get enough minutes.
The 'rumor' appears to have originated from Sporting News AI generated slop... they take a fan's fantasy trade idea & turn it into a fake news article pretending to be legitimate. Long story short- there's nothing here to discuss
