<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> November 24, 2003 -- Chicago Bulls Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson today announced that Bill Cartwright has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the NBA franchise. In a statement released this morning, Paxson said: ?I knew there would be difficult times in this job, but none is harder than replacing a friend. I have known Bill Cartwright as a teammate, as a colleague and as a friend for nearly as long as I?ve been in professional basketball. I admire his hard work and his efforts and loyalty here. He will always be a Bull. The decision to relieve Bill at this time was a basketball decision. The team is underperforming and we have to find ways to win, period. I am not satisfied with the team?s start this season and changes have to be made. This represents the first change, but not necessarily the last.? Paxson said he expects to name Cartwright?s replacement within the next week, but said Pete Myers will be coaching the Bulls in the interim. </div> http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/cartwright_r...ved_031124.html
I just hope the Bulls get rid of the triangle. It doesn't seem to work with non-Phil jacson/tex winters coached teams.
Yes I do,Doc although has been a decent coach over the years...when you coach a team that goes 1-12 when you have a superstar some of it has to be down to coaching.Rivers I don't think would make you better.
Allnet is correct. Scott Skiles will be the new coach of the Bulls. Him and the Bulls GM John Paxon are discussing contract terms. Doc Rivers was interested in the job however he has said that he wants to take the rest of the year off from coaching. Scott Skiles will be a good coach for the Bulls. He is like a drill sergeantl, which is exactly what this team needs. Besides adding Skiles as the head coach, also look for Jalen Rose and/or Jamal Crawford to be traded very soon. If Skiles is hired and neither Rose nor Crawford is moved, you can expect a lot of drama in Chicago this year.
Yeah Skiles didn't really work out in Phoenix because of his drill sargeant attitude. That particular attitude didn't work for that particular team. However, I do think that is the kind of the coach the Bulls need. A perfectionist in a sense, but he is open to suggestions for improvement (well, sometimes atleast). The team just needs someone to get on their case about attitude, work ethic, and not playing lethargically. Skiles can provide that.
I would be thrilled if I were a Bulls fan right now... oh wait... I'm thrilled! The franchise (not Steve) is finally showing some life! Paxon seems to be lighting a fire that hopefully will burn hot and bright and leave room for new life and new growth in the very near future. He showed more passion in this move than any of his players have shown this year. Keep it coming!
I still miss Cartwright.. but he was too nice of a coach for the Bulls. Skiles will make them work hard. If they don't they'll get benched, while guys like Lonny Baxter and Kirk Hinrich see more playing time. I've heard that the veterans that Skiles has coached in the past have had nothing good to say about him. It really shouldn't matter whether the players like the coach or not, as long as they do their job every day, but this could become a problem.
It sure did become a problem with Marion and Kidd when Skiles was in Phoenix. Just hope that he doesn't have a mental breakdown like he did with the Suns...
I hope Skiles doesnt make Curry lose confidence by humilitaing him, like what Doug Collins and MJ did to Kwame, which did not work (7.9 pts, 6.50 reb)
