I have to admit it, everytime I watch a Spurs game, Manu Ginobili finds a way to amaze me. Whether its a dunk on Shaq, an athletic twist through the lane, some clutch 3 pointers, or pin point passing, he seems to be able to do it all. I think he could be one of the best players in the game in several years, although Pop will have to revamp the Tim-o-centric offense the Spurs currently run in order to accomodate Manu. What I want to know is, do others agree that Manu could be a star, or what? Where do you see Manu four years down the road, when Tim Duncan is 31 or 32, Tony Parker has matured into an efficient assist-man, and Manu has some NBA experience under his belt?
He could be a big star yes.Although right now he is way too inconsistant for my liking. He can go off for 30,7 and 6 one night or 5 points 1-10 shooting the next. All needs to do is try and be more consistant and he should have a successful NBA career. He has it all there...Thats why the Spurs need to re-sign him at the end of the season.Otherwise he could become a huge star elsewhere.
He is very amazing, but i dont think he'll be a star like Kobe or something, rather someone thats playing at a very high level but quit in front of the media... Im not sure. But he will be successful if he continues to improve and tries like allnet said to be consistant
He's a great player, and an even better teammate. Even as a sophomore in the NBA, he knows what he's doing out there. Right now, he's tied for 32nd place in 3 pointers made this season. 34th in assists per game (tied with Kobe at 4.3), 4th in steals per game (just over 2), and according to NBA.com, he's 50th in Efficiency ratings. He plays some great defense, as is traditional for a Spur, and because he can get up, he deters some smaller and equal sized shooters. Similar to Iverson, he can create easy buckets off of steals, and is quite capable of carrying a game on his back. Combine all this with the fact that he's fast, he's playing with Duncan and Parker, and he's left handed, and you've got a great international player on your hands.
Manu already is a star.....just not in America. The dude has skills, but I don't think he will ever be elite. In order to be a star he would have to improve enough to surpass some of the current stars at guard (kobe, tmac, vince, ai, pierce, etc), and I don't see that happening. Sadly, today's game requires flashy play (with the exception of Duncan) in order to be a star. I also don't think that Manu will develop the killer mentality on the court that most stars possess.
Crossover, he is a sophomore, but he had played more finals than a lot of people in the NBA, 70% more or less I would say.
What Ginobili needs to improve on is his consistency and right hand. Last season, he was virtually a one-hander. He looked like he can't even dribble twice on his right hand.
Consistency comes with experience, playing time and adjusting to all the types of defense the opponents use. Kid has got major game tho'...He'll be a huge NBA star I have no doubts.

He's one of the flashiest players in the game today. I love watching Manu because he always pulls some crowd-pleasing stunt, either with a shot or his amazing athleticism. Gregg Popovich recently said something to the effect of 'I guess what he does pleases the crowd, but it just makes me get gray hair' or something. But bottomline is that he IS one of the flashiest players. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> I also don't think that Manu will develop the killer mentality on the court that most stars possess.</div> If you watched the first Spurs-Lakers game, the one without Duncan and Parker, you would have seen that killer mentality, or however much of it Manu has already developed. He was often the best player on the court, despite the presence of the Big Four, and he set career highs in scoring, rebounding, and tied his assist total I believe. And when the clock wound down at the end of the 2nd OT, with all that pressure, he wanted the shot. He missed, but so did Kobe in the '97 playoffs.
He had 2 blocks that game, too. Of course, Spurs were cheated out of that game. 1. Kobe got 3 steps with under 30 seconds left. 2. End of second quarter, good block was called a goaltend and they didn't review it. And yes, Manu is a very flashy player. Popovich commented on him and his play once, saying "He's a great kid, and I love the way he plays. But with every stunt he pulls, it takes a month off my life."
Manu will become a star...he will make all-star teams , but i dont see him scoring 25+ ppg like the other elite Gurads.Thats not his game , he is unlike the other elite guards the whole package...thats what makes him a great player not his scoring.
I agree 9SA21SPURS20, Sometimes i se T-mac play if he doesnt score?, He goes dead, Manu can defend, pass, score, rebound, andis athletic as anyone, Also he is not afraid to guard these players, I see how sometimes guys like T-mac or kobe try to intimidate him when he is playing defense against them, But he doesnt back down, No matter what, And even if he doesnt average 25ppg, It doesnt mean he isnt going to be a star, I like him he is unselfish and he can be a new breed of star, The type like larry bird, Magic johnson, Who pass, and do whatever it takes, Heck i'd take Manu over T-mac anyday, But thats just me, I preffer a guy who is unselfish and can have effect on the game without scoring 40 points!!!
